True Story, the title on Netflix's fictional drama miniseries starring Kevin Hart, is fitting since the comedian was once part of an extortion attempt in real life. Many things about the main character, Kid, appear to be plucked directly from Hart's own life, with the major switch being a potential murder case instead of a cheating scandal.

While Kid is truly a fascinating character, he isn't the only one that dominates the proceedings. His brother Carlton (Wesley Snipes) impresses too and so do many other members of the comedian's inner circle. But while most of the characters are solid enough to make viewers invested in them, some are likable while others are quite annoying.

Carlton

Carlton and Kid try to get rid of a dead body in True Story

The former felon actively tries to help his younger famous brother Kid get rid of the 'body' of his one-night-stand partner, Daphne. But in one of the biggest TV plot twists in recent times, it's revealed that Daphne is alive and Carlton is trying to defraud Kid.

There's not a single thing to admire about Carlton. He shows how self-centered and uncaring he is by making Kid drink at the bar yet the comedian has been trying to sobber up. Attempting to extract $6 million from his younger brother using fraudulent means is also strange since Kid loves him so much that he could have voluntarily offered him any financial assistance he needed. There's also no way for Carlton to redeem himself after he frames the obsessive but innocent fan, Gene, for Ari's murder, resulting in a tragic death.

Ari

An image of Ari sitting in a chair in True Story

Ari is brought in by Carlton as a "cleaner" to help get rid of Daphne's body. He gets cocky and goes on to mock Kid so much that the star snaps and strangles him to death.

From the moment he is introduced, Ari gives fans every reason to hate him because he is too much a bully. Traditionally, people in Ari's line of work tend to be discrete and less talkative but instead of pretending to do the cleanup job, the gangster begins taunting Kid. He wrongfully thinks he is so intimidating that the comedian will do everything he wants but he instead gets garotted. Consequently, he ruins the extortion plan.

Daphne

Kid confronts Daphne on the streets in True Story

Daphne seduces Kid at a nightclub and makes him take her back to his hotel room. She is then pronounced dead by Carlton but it later emerges that she is very much alive and was in on the plan to acquire $6 million from Kid. She also happens to be Carlton's girlfriend whose real name is Simone.

Agreeing to sleep with her boyfriend's brother just so she would later pretend to be dead makes her fit perfectly in the despicable list because a good partner would definitely oppose such a plan. Additionally, Daphne would have been cooler if she was a careful criminal. Instead, she walks freely on the streets, resulting in Kid spotting her and forcing a confession out of her.

Savvas

Savva questions aa witness to his brother's murder in in True Story

The Greek mobster springs into action when his brother, Ari, goes missing and is found dead. He maims and murders his way to the truth but ends up getting killed too.

Savvas is too brutal to ever appeal to fans. The show's limited gore is mostly brought out through him as he is frequently seen torturing and murdering his victims in the most gruesome ways possible. The manner in which he kills Gene leaves a bad taste since the obsessive fan was innocent. It's a joyful moment when Kid finally shoots him in the finale.

Gene

Gene approaches Kid outside a hotel building in True Story

The obsessive fan keeps numerous pictures and newspaper articles about Kid. While stalking the superstar, he sees him burying Ari's body and records it. Kid then makes him a member of his circle in an effort to keep him quiet.

Kid is not exactly detestable but he comes off as creepy. Ordinarily, normal fans don't follow their idols around while recording videos or keep hundreds of articles about them. Gene is easily manipulated by Kid and Carlton too, such that he deletes the incriminating video. He also takes the fall for Ari's murder and gets bludgeoned, resulting in what could be considered one of the most tragic TV deaths.

Herschel

Kid's bodyguard Herschel watches him go to train without him in True Story

Kind's bodyguard is the perfect subordinate as he follows every order he is given. When he discovers that the comedian has been keeping secrets from him, he becomes resentful and demands $6 million too in order to keep quiet.

Herschel initially has fans on his corner, thanks to the composed manner in which he goes about his job. Unfortunately, he ruins all that by demanding money from Kid too. His sudden greed is a shocker and it puts him in the same boat as Carlton and Ari, even though those two have much grander sins.

Kid

Everything goes wrong for Kid when his brother Carlton tricks him into thinking that Daphne has died on his bed after a night out. By trying to cover up Daphne's demise, he ends up digging a deeper hole

Before hell breaks loose, Kid is simply the quintessential celebrity trying to do his job. At that point in his life, he is adorable. He loves Monyca, even though they are breaking up, and cares a lot about his son. However, when he begins covering up his messes, he mutates into a monster. It's hard to look at Kid the same way when he goes from someone who would never step on an ant to killing four people, including his own brother.

Todd

Todd advises Billie to stay on the team in True Story

Kid's manager has pulled thick and thin strings to get him where he is today. He assumes everything is going well but soon learns that his client was a victim in a major extortion attempt.

Todd has a case for incisions among the best TV bosses of all time. His tendency to be understanding and accommodating makes him winsome to fans. When Billie threatens to stop writing jokes for Kid, Todd doesn't get angry. Instead, he advises her to take the new gig she's being offered by Will Farell and also keep doing what she does for Kid. He isn't one to panic either and this is best demonstrated when he finds out the crimes Kid has been caught up in.

Billie

Billie reveals she is dating Kid's bodyguard in True Story

Billie is introduced as the behind-the-curtains member of Kid's team who comes up with most of his hilarious monologues. After getting an offer from Will Farell, she considers quitting but is advised to stay. Additionally, she begins a relationship with Herschel.

The comedy writer deserves to be lauded too for making Kid a star. Despite the huge role she plays in his career, she doesn't brag about it. She simply sees it as he duty. Even when she decides to do her own standup sets, it's hard to fault her for it because Kid isn't exactly the most appreciative person. Moreover, her relationship with Herschel is the most genuine one on the show.

Monyca

Monyca chats with her ex-husband Kid in True Story

Monyca and Kid are in the process of getting a divorce but she's so caring towards him they would be mistaken for a couple in the honeymoon face. She is shown to be somewhat of an unofficial advisor to Kid.

Monyca is the dream ex-spouse as she makes Kid's life easier instead of opting for court battles. Her counsel has greatly benefited Kid to the point where he still looks up to her for guidance even as they are parting ways. She is supportive as well, not just to Kid but to their son too, thus painting herself as the perfect family woman.
