Fans of the teen movie genre can rejoice because they just received a fantastic entry into the genre with Netflix's Do Revenge. The dark comedy centers on two teen girls at an elite high school who decide to team up to take down their bullies for each other.

Inspired by dozens of teen movies before it, Do Revenge takes the tropes and plot points fans have come to love and turns them on their head in the most exciting and surprising ways. Part of the reason Do Revenge is so successful at subverting expectations is because of the rich cast of characters who all operate on varying levels of the alignment chart. From chaotic evil to chaotic good, the characters in Do Revenge are entertaining, despicable, and so charismatic it's hard not to love them.

Max

Max (Austin Abrams) gets the popular mean boy Gen-Z transformation in Do Revenge. He prides himself on being student body president and parades around his fake wokeness while playing the victim when he's really the perpetrator of chaos.

While he might be parading around as a "good dude," he's the textbook definition of a misogynistic narcissist. In the end, it's revealed that he did leak the video of Drea, and he did so because he was threatened by her status. Nothing is worse than an insecure bully, which is why so many fans found him easy to dislike.

Meghan

Meghan (Paris Berelc) might not have a lot of lines in Do Revenge, but she makes do with what she gets. As one of the popular girls, Meghan chooses Max over Drea in the aftermath of the video leak. And if that's not bad enough, she uses her editor-in-chief status of the school's magazine to write an entire article about how Max was the victim of a physical assault at the hands of Drea.

Like Max, Meghan is a fake activist who really doesn't care about the actual victim in the video leak scandal. Thus, it's really hard for fans to root for her, given the fact she's so willing and able to put down another woman.

Tara

Tara (Alisha Boe) is supposed to be Drea's best friend, and yet, she drops her the minute the video leaks to side with Max. To make matters worse, she also ends up dating Max and publicly defends him when it's revealed that he's been cheating on her and several other girls in school.

However, Tara does have some redeeming qualities, like the fact that she threw Drea the big party at the beginning and even apologized to her towards the end of the movie. Thus, Tara is a morally ambiguous movie character that has fans unsure where their allegiance lies for her.

Montana

Montana clapping in Do Revenge

Montana (Maia Reficco) is set up as the modern "dumb girl" trope and does a fairly good job at it. When it comes to the "mean girls" in Do Revenge, Montana is the nicest of all. She doesn't publicly say anything bad about Drea and even keeps her on her close friends list on social media.

While Montana doesn't add fuel to the fire, she also does nothing to extinguish it. Fans would have loved to see Montana stand up for Drea, but instead, she goes along with what her friends want her to do, which keeps her from being a well-liked character.

Carissa

Carissa looking annoyed in Do Revenge

Carissa (Ava Capri) starts out as one of the villains in Do Revenge when Eleanor claims that she spread a harmful rumor about her. Fans instantly hate Carissa until it's revealed that she didn't actually spread the rumor, nor did she have anything to do with the rumor.

The only thing Carissa ever did wrong was grow drugs on school property, but many fans don't think that's a crime worthy of being hated for. Thus, Carissa goes from one of the most hated characters to one that fans actually like with the world's quickest redemption arc. In essence, she went from a villain to a friend in one single scene.

Elliot

Elliot smirking in Do Revenge

Elliot (Jonathan Daviss) is the definition of a chill popular kid. When fans first meet him, he's floating on a pool float while trying to avoid having to kick someone out. And he stays on that chill plain the entire movie.

Elliot loses likability points because he never questions or puts Max in his place, but fans can't fault him for being a loyal friend when Max has never done anything wrong to him. He's also an open ally and everything Max could have been if he wasn't so busy planning an evil takedown.

Drea

Drea drinking from her cup in Do Revenge

Drea (Camila Mendes) is the queen of characters who are flawed but loved, and yet she's not the most liked character in Do Revenge. While fans sympathize with her privacy being extorted and agree that she was in the right for wanting to take down Max, they have a harder time wrapping their head around the fact that she's the one who spread the hurtful rumor about Eleanor.

Though Drea has definitely done some bad things in her life, she does seem to have learned from her mistakes (at least a little). Truthfully, it's her friendship with Eleanor and her ability to admit that being mean doesn't make her happy that makes fans overlook some of the evil things she does.

Eleanor

Eleanor (Maya Hawke) starts out as this awkward and wronged character and becomes a mastermind villain that fans can't help but root for. It helps that Eleanor's revenge is justified, given that the rumor spread about her not only outed her sexuality but made her seem like a predator to her crush at the time.

While Eleanor does some pretty messed up things like lying, hitting Drea with her car, and threatening to plant drugs on Drea's mom, she does show remorse immediately after. In the end, she redeems herself by not taking down Drea and instead channeling her rage into taking down Max. She might not be lawful good, but her villainous personality makes her one of the most interesting teen girl characters out there.

Gabbi

Gabby (Talia Ryder) is Max's little sister who doesn't buy into the popularity thing as Max does. She bonds with Eleanor on the first day and doesn't ever look down on Eleanor for trying to be popular. She's the type of character who isn't afraid to call someone out on their nonsense -- which is exactly what she does when Eleanor fully transforms into a mean girl.

While Gabbi spends most of the movie doing nothing wrong, she loses likability points for not confirming Drea's suspicion that Max did leak the video. Instead, she protects her brother even though she doesn't agree with his actions.

Russ

Of all the characters in DoRevenge, Russ is the only one who literally does nothing wrong the entire time. He's shown as being a supportive and encouraging friend to Carissa and takes Drea under his wing when he sees her in distress after the Max debacle.

But it's not just his kindness that makes him likable, it's his ability to call out everyone around him. He attempts to hold Drea accountable on many occasions and thus helps her become a better person. Not to mention, Russ is a nice update to the "bad boy" trope in teen movies.
