Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is one of the streaming service's biggest hits for a handful of reasons but the top one might be the cast of characters. Sure, the superpowers, time travel, and plot twists are all fun but none of that matters if audiences don't have a strong liking for the people involved.

The best part about a show where you enjoy so many characters is getting to see them interact with each other. Whether it be friendships, a bond between siblings, or romantic entanglements, The Umbrella Academy has given viewers plenty of relationships to adore during its two-season run so far.

Five & Hazel

Hazel and Number Five look at incoming missiles

Here's one that nobody expected to enjoy. Hazel was first seen alongside Cha-Cha as hitmen hired to take out Number Five. Their first action scene saw them fighting various Hargreeves siblings just to get to Five. Over the course of the season though, Hazel changed.

He joined Five in an attempt to stop the apocalypse and the two shared a drink. There was a respect between them. Hazel was also the man who sent Five on his season two path. Their meeting on the bench was a short scene but a touching one.

Klaus & Dave

For a good chunk of season one, Klaus Hargreeves was just the sibling with the drug addiction who didn't care much for whatever was going on around him. That changed when he accidentally time traveled. When Klaus returned, he was a man who had loved and lost Dave Katz.

Klaus and Dave fell for each other while fighting together during the Vietnam War before Dave ended up dying in his arms. In season two, Klaus did everything he could to prevent Dave from going to the war to save his life but he ultimately failed. It's a tragic tale and a good romance but it didn't get enough screen time to rank higher.

Diego & Luther

This is one of the more unique relationships in the series. Luther has always been designated as Number One, while Diego is Number Two. As soon as they first interact in the premiere episode, you get a sense of how their relationship works. Diego has always wanted to be the alpha.

That makes them butt heads and it ends up leading to some great scenes. Luther can sometimes be overwhelmed by his position as the leader, while Diego's desire for it gives him his hero complex. It may not be the most loving relationship but it's incredible to watch.

Detective Patch & Diego

Detective Eudora Patch was only around for the first half of season one but she certainly made an impact. Diego had a romantic past with her and although they aren't together when the story unfolds, you could see that the love is still there on both sides.

Patch's death turned out to be one of the most heartbreaking moments on the show. It crushed Diego as she was the woman he truly loved. His romance with Lila in season two couldn't hold a candle to this one. Patch was someone who could match him in toughness and in another life, they would've been great together.

Allison & Luther

The Hargreeves siblings aren't related by blood and were all adopted by Sir Reginald. When you put a bunch of kids together all the time and their hormones start raging, they're bound to develop feelings for each other. That's what happened with Allison and Luther.

The two were apparently always together while growing up and though they never fully sealed the deal on their relationship, it was a huge part of both of their lives. They get the most time to show it on screen and develop their bond. That being said, it's still a bit weird since they did grow up as siblings.

Diego & Klaus

Diego ties up Klaus to get him sober

Honestly, this one was rather unexpected. When the series began, Klaus was basically the family screwup while Diego seemed annoyed by him. That all changed in the second half of the season when Diego helped him get sober in his attempt to contact Dave in the afterlife.

From that point on, the two were surprisingly close, including the way they escaped the mansion in the season finale. Even when there were family arguments and discussions, Klaus showed a tendency to side with Diego. That loyalty is important in this relationship.

Allison & Vanya

Allison consoles Vanya

It must have been difficult being the only girls among the siblings. That was especially true for Vanya, who was never really part of The Umbrella Academy. When the siblings reconciled as adults, Allison and Vanya began to develop a legitimate sisterhood for the most part.

It's Allison who looks out for Vanya with Leonard/Harold like a big sister would. They went through ups and downs, like Allison remembering that she rumored Vanya as a kid and Vanya slicing her throat. Allison is typically the first one rushing to help Vanya and they're always there for each other.

Allison, Klaus & Vanya

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Allison Klaus and Vanya

To be fair, this one was only really at the forefront for a single episode but what a glorious episode it was. In season two's "Valhalla," the siblings tried to figure out how to spend their final week or so on the planet before the apocalypse hit. Interestingly, Klaus joined his sisters instead of one of his brothers.

That made for fantastic television. The three visited Allison's hair salon and bonded over everything, including gossiping about relationships and their past. The montage of them dancing around the salon was magical and one of the best things in series history. Fans are dying for more of this in future seasons.

Diego & Grace

Diego shuts down Grace

Diego is a lot of things and a mama's boy is right near the top. During Reginald's funeral, Diego is there to check on Grace more than anyone else. He fights to keep her alive and it's crushing when he decides to be the one to shut her down after seeing her struggles.

Diego's love for his mother led him to nearly rush into the crumbling mansion to save her. Nobody was impacted by her death more than him. In fact, when Diego sees the real woman Grace was designed after in the past, he immediately feels a connection to her.

Ben & Klaus

Umbrella Academy season 2 Klaus Ben

Poor Ben is the one member of The Umbrella Academy to die at a young age but he lives on through Klaus' connection to the afterlife. The relationship between these two is often the heart of the show and is almost always a ton of fun. You can't help but smile when they interact.

Ben usually acts as a conscience for Klaus, trying to get him off drugs and to do better as a person. Everything from their fights to the fact that they can even share a body through Klaus' powers is enough to make them the best relationship in the entire series.
