After three seasons, Netflix is canceling the futuristic drama series, Travelers. The show follows series star and producer Eric McCormack as FBI agent Grant MacLaren, leader of a group intent on saving the world with time travel.

Travelers is produced by Peacock Alley Entertainment in hand with Netflix and takes place centuries into the future where operatives use time travel to send their to the minds of those living in the 21st century. Created by Brad Wright (Stargate: Atlantis), the series exists in world where the travelers are assigned a number in lieu of a name on missions and follow strict rules in their endeavors. Along with McCormack - best known for his role as Will Truman in hit sitcom Will and Grace - Travelers also stars MacKenzie Porter as Marcy Warton, Nesta Cooper (Supergirl) as Carly Shannon, and Jared Abrahamson (Fear The Walking Dead) as Trevor Holden. On Friday, McCormack took to Twitter to announce the series cancellation.

Travelers first premiered on Canadian specialty channel, Showcase, on October 17th 2016. Netflix soon picked up the series for a worldwide distribution and season 3 was released on December 14th, 2018. Unfortunately for Travelers fans there are no plans for a season 4. Eric McCormack bid farewell to fans of the show on Twitter, in the process confirming the show is coming to an end.

"A lot of you have been asking about the possibility of a season four but many of you have been saying ‘Look, if this is it, what a moving and surprising and profound ending it is. Well, I’m afraid it is," McCormack says. "Who knows what the future holds, but Travelers Program 1, as we call it, is complete … Much love from 3468 in the 21st."

Fellow Travelers star Mackenzie Porter also shared a few parting words to the fans on Twitter:

During its run, Travelers seemed to be a hit, earning a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and generally favorable critic reviews. But apparently the ratings were not high enough to justify a season 4. At this time, McCormack is slated to continue his role on Will and Grace, while other cast members are in pending projects. Who knows if Travelers will be revived on another platform, but McCormack's comments carry a sense of finality about the show's future.

Travelers is a short-lived series joining the list of other upsets of Netflix cancellations. There have been recent uproars from fans about saying farewell to original series such as Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The streaming service giant continues to surprise and disappoint in deciding which series will continue and which will reach their demise. However, there is some comfort for fans of Travelers because the ending of season 3 did tie up loose ends - though it also teased a potential for season 4. And while that does not look to be in the foreseeable future, all three seasons of Travelers is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
