Everyone who’s seen The Crown knows that it’s a drama all about character. Whether it’s Elizabeth or Philip, Anne or Charles, Camilla or Diana, these are men and women caught up in the tides of modernity and trying to make sense of the changing role of the monarchy in the postwar world.

Given that this series is so heavy on character development, it necessarily leads to the question: which character should a viewer date based on their zodiac sign? Though it might seem obvious at first glance, it turns out that the answers can be somewhat surprising.

Aries: Lord Mountbatten

Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten in The Crown

Charles Dance excels as Lord Mountbatten, a man with a great deal of energy and ambition. Throughout the third season, he shows himself to be a man who has a very firm sense of what he wants out of life, and he’s determined to get it, even if it means causing damage to those around him.

An Aries, with its fiery personality, would find much to like in Mountbatten, and there’s no telling how far their ambition could take them.

Taurus: Margaret

The Crown season 4 Princess Margaret

Margaret is, to put it mildly, a bit of a challenging character, particularly as she gets older and finds herself less interested in behaving as a member of the royal family should.

She’s also a bit unstable at times. This might seem to make her an ill fit for the more sensible Taurus, but it seems pretty likely that she could actually benefit from that sort of stability in her life, and the Taurus would enjoy this formidable challenge.

Gemini: Anne

The Crown Princess Anne Formal

Anne was a bit of a dark horse in the third season, coming out of nowhere to become a fascinating character in her own right. She’s one of those royals who doesn’t seem to give much of a care to what others, particularly the press, think about her, and she is far from glamorous.

However, there’s a bit of spontaneity to her behavior that would call to similar behaviors very common to Gemini, and the two would probably make a lovely couple.

Cancer: Charles

The Crown Prince Charles Wales

There’s something almost pitiable about Charles. Neither of his parents quite seem to know what to do with him, and so for most of the third and fourth seasons, he tries to find himself, often causing emotional damage in the process.

He would definitely benefit from the Cancer’s ability to empathize with others, and it could be hoped that the two of them would find much to enjoy exploring the various aspects of their emotional lives together.

Leo: Camilla

Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles in The Crown

Camilla, like so many other characters, is a bit of an enigma. It’s clear that she loves Charles and cares deeply about his welfare, but it’s also true that there’s a bit of an edge to her, one that leads her to be more than a little cruel to Diana at their lunch together.

However, it’s undeniable that she’s a fiery and intense personality, something that would definitely appeal to most Leos out there (though they might start competing with one another to be the center of attention).

Virgo: Elizabeth

The Crown Season 4 Queen Elizabeth

Of all of the members of her family, Elizabeth is arguably the most sensible. This makes sense since the weight of the crown weighs most heavily on her own head. She knows that she has certain responsibilities to her people and to the institution of which she is a part, and she lives her life accordingly.

Given how reasonable and structured her life is, she would make an ideal match for the Virgo, the sign most known for enjoying an ordered existence.

Libra: Philip

The Crown Season 4 Philip

Philip is a particularly intense character, so much so that he is often also very unpleasant, particularly to members of his family (especially his poor son, Charles). From the beginning of the series, he clearly has a chip on his shoulder, and he’s not shy about letting others know about it.

He needs someone who would be able to provide balance and a bit of calm in his life, and there’s no sign that would be more suited to that particular duty than the Libra.

Scorpio: Tony

The Crown Season 3 Tony Margaret

Anthony (often known as Tony) is one of the many people who find their lives turned upside down by getting romantically involved with a member of the royal family, in this case, Margaret.

He’s a man who has a certain sensuality about him, which is part of what draws Maragaret to him in the first place. At the same time, there’s a bit of an edge to him that makes him a perfect match for the similarly edgy Scorpio.

Sagittarius: Winston Churchill

Churchill The Crown

The Sagittarius is, as a fire sign, one of the more adventurous and spontaneous members of the zodiac. These aren’t exactly the words one would use to describe Winston Churchill, who is in fact rather stodgy and old-fashioned.

However, there’s no denying that he’s also a forceful personality, and the Sagittarius would no doubt find that they complemented his strengths in some unique and productive ways that would help them to be better people.

Capricorn: Margaret Thatcher

The Crown Season 4 Thatcher

From the moment that she appears in the fourth season, Margaret Thatcher makes it clear that she is a no-nonsense sort of person, exactly the type of woman that would become known as the Iron Lady.

She has no time for human folly or capriciousness, and if there’s a sign that exudes a sense of stability and sense, it would be the Capricorn. Frankly, it’s hard to imagine any other sign that would be more suited to this particular prime minister.

Aquarius: Edward VIII

Edward VIII The Crown

Edward VIII has gone down in history as being a particularly fascinating man, the king who gave up his throne for the woman that he loved. However, in the show, he’s always something of an enigma, almost as if he lives on a different planet than the rest of the royal family.

If there’s one other sign that would accept that, and even embrace it, it would have to be the Aquarius, which also seems to thrive on being mysterious.

Pisces: Diana

Diana looking sideways in The Crown

It’s clear early on that Diana (on top of being a burgeoning fashion icon) is a very sensitive sort of person, which makes it all the more tragic that she gets embroiled with the royal family, hardly a group known for their compassion or warmth.

Fortunately, that’s where Pisces comes in. If there’s a sign that would be able to give this lonely princess the love that she needs, it would have to be Pisces, a sign known for its ability to take care of others.
