Netflix has released the first look at Steve Carell's Space Force TV series, unveiling new cast members and confirming a May 2020 release date. After exiting The Office nearly a decade ago, Carell is returning to the world of workplace comedies on Netflix with Space Force. Carell co-created the new series with The Office's Greg Daniels, who also serves as the showrunner, and was announced to be heading to the streaming service in early 2019.

Space Force came to be after the announcement of President Donald Trump's space program, with the series set to take a comedic approach to the concept. Carell stars as Mark R. Naird, a decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, who suddenly finds himself appointed as the head of the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. His mission is to get America back on the moon to "achieve total space dominance," according to Netflix's official description of the series. The series went through production last year and assembled a big cast to be on Carell's Space Force team. Now, Netflix has released the first look.

Netflix officially debuted 12 images from Space Force that represent the first official looks at the upcoming series. The photos offer up a glimpse at the cast, which includes Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) and John Malkovich (Billions), and also reveals that former Friends star Lisa Kudrow joined the series. She'll play Mark's wife Maggie. In addition to the images, Netflix confirmed Space Force will begin streaming on May 29, 2020.

These images might not give too much of Space Force's story away, but their operating headquarters are present throughout. Carell is understandably featured in more photos than his other cast members, but each of the main members are featured. In addition to Carell, Kudrow, Schwartz, and Malkovich, Space Force features Diana Silvers (Booksmart), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley), Tawny Newsome (Bajillion Dollar Propertie$), Noah Emmerich (The Americans), and Don Lake (NCIS).

With Carell back as a TV boss and a talented cast, it is no surprise that Space Force is a highly-anticipated series. The good news now is the wait for the series to arrive won't be that much longer. These images and the premiere date could indicate a trailer might not be too far away either, which will provide potential viewers with a better grasp on the tone and story. Hopefully, the reunion of Carell and Daniels and a workplace comedy premise helps ensure Space Force is a hit, as these factors could enable the series to continue for several seasons.
