The relationship between Disney and Netflix will soon be coming to an end. This is because Disney is planning on creating their own streaming service that is due to start in 2018 or 2019.
Disney certainly possesses a library big enough to justify a streaming platform of their own, and it will likely convince enough people to subscribe so as to make it profitable. However, this splintering of the streaming services cannot be good for the industry as a whole, as people can only justify paying ten dollars a month to so many companies.
The Disney/Netflix fallout has yet to happen, however, as the house of the mouse has provided some awesome films this month. They are also being joined by lots of intriguing new movies and TV shows that are produced by Netflix, along with some returning classics.
We are here today to look at the upcoming movies and TV shows that are being added to Netflix in September of 2017.

Little Evil
Scary children are a prominent trope in horror movies. Movies like The Omen, The Ring, and Village of the Damned all used evil children as the antagonists of the movie, with varying degrees of success. There can be something creepy about a possessed kid, though you need a really good child actor to pull it off.
Little Evil is a parody movie about a man named Gary whose stepson is the spawn of the devil. His new wife was once a member of a cult and she went through a Rosemary's Baby kind of situation.
Gary wants to bond with his new son, but it's difficult due to the fact that the kid possesses evil supernatural abilities. It doesn't help that his wife (played by Evangeline Lilly from Lost) seems to be blissfully unaware of the fact that her son is evil incarnate.
Little Evil is coming to Netflix September 1st.
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs helped propel Quentin Tarantino to stardom. It was also the movie that earned him a lot of critics among those who are well-versed in movies, as there is no denying that Reservoir Dogs borrowed heavily from other films to the point where some considered it to be plagiarism.
It was Tarantino's follow-up film that silenced his critics and vindicated the hype that had built up around him. Pulp Fiction is often regarded as Tarantino's best film and is considered to be one of the greatest movies ever made.
Pulp Fiction follows the stories of several different characters that are told out of order, yet are all masterfully intertwined. The story of two gangsters that have to retrieve a mysterious briefcase becomes mixed up with that of a boxer who tries to rip off their boss and a pair of petty thieves who try and rob them in a diner. To say any more would be spoiling one of the best movies ever made.

Gerald's Game
Gerald's Game is an adaptation of one of Stephen King's lesser known novels of the same name. It's surprising that it has taken this long for someone to turn this book into a movie, as it involves an accident occurring during bondage play between a couple. You would think that the success of 50 Shades of Grey would have helped an adaptation of this story to be made sooner.
Gerald's Game is the story of a woman who accidentally kills her husband after he has tied her up during bondage play. The two of them are on vacation, so it is unlikely that anyone will come to her rescue before she dies of terminal dehydration.
It is up to the woman to find a way to escape her shackles, as the voices in her head begin to take over and convince her that a terrible fate awaits if she cannot find a way to free herself from the handcuffs.
Gerald's Game is set to come to Netflix on September 29th.
Gotham (Season 3)
One could be forgiven for thinking that DC and Warner Bros. are doing their best to kill the superhero movie genre. They missed the boat on creating the first cinematic universe, which led to Disney and Marvel making billions of dollars every year.
It seems that most of the movies and TV shows that are based on DC characters aren't doing so well (with the exception of Wonder Woman) and only exist to flood the marketplace and kill all interest in superheroes.
Gotham seems to be one of the exceptions to this, as the story of the genesis of Batman and his villains has only gotten better with time. Gotham has offered a fresh take on these famous characters, which have managed to be more entertaining than the Batman cast used in the current DC movies. The third season of Gotham is coming to Netflix soon, which is intended to tie into the upcoming fourth season of the show on Fox.

Jerry Before Seinfeld
Stand up comedians seem like a depressed bunch when they get off the stage. This is because the desire to make people laugh is often inspired by a need to make people happy that derives from sadness.
The exception to this seems to be Jerry Seinfeld. He made all of the money in the world with Seinfeld, yet he still loves to perform. This is a man who has a genuine love for his craft that no amount of yacht buying can diminish.
Netflix produces a lot of stand up specials, yet Jerry Before Seinfeld is significant because it is Seinfeld's first show for the streaming service. This is part of a larger deal, as he will also be producing a second show at some point in the future.
One thing is for sure: the airline peanuts of the world (and the bags they come in) best prepare to be the subject of another one of Jerry's vicious roasts.

Greenhouse Academy
Nickelodeon has several foreign branches that produce their own shows. Nickelodeon Israel created a school drama called The Greenhouse, which was later picked up by Nickelodeon UK and dubbed into English (so that all of the Israeli students now sounded like Harry Potter characters).
The Greenhouse was set in a special academy in Israel where the students are broken up into two houses called the Ravens and the Eagles and are they pitted together in various tasks. The two houses will eventually have to settle their differences, as a great evil is brewing in their school.
Netflix has picked up the rights for The Greenhouse and has created an English adaptation of the show, called Greenhouse Academy. The setting of the show has been moved to Southern California and a new cast has been hired. Will this remake manage to capture the spirit of the original? We will find out soon.

Hercules/Mulan/Pocahontas
Disney is preparing for the eventual break up with Netflix by giving them some gifts first-- three of their best-animated movies are coming to the service this month.
Hercules is a retelling of the famous Greek myth, which is done in the style of a Las Vegas show. It had a mixed reaction at the time, though it is has found new appreciation among modern audiences.
Mulan is the story of a girl who dresses like a man in order to replace her father who has been called to war. The soundtrack is mostly forgettable, except for "I'll Make A Man Out Of You", which is one of the best songs in any Disney film. It is considered by some to be the last great Disney movie of their revival that began with the Little Mermaid.
Pocahontas is a movie that is loved for the quality of its animation and soundtrack, but is often criticized for its historical inaccuracies. It is based on the story of a real Native American woman who was captured by the English and converted to Christianity, before moving to London. That story is mostly ignored and replaced with talking animals.
Hercules and Mulan are joining Netflix on September 1st, while Pocahontas is joining Netflix on September 14th.
Bojack Horseman (Season 4)
Bojack Horseman got off to a rocky start, with a first season that didn't impress many critics. Luckily, the show managed to earn an audience, which led to it receiving a second season. This was a massive improvement over the first. Bojack Horseman has only gotten better with time, which will hopefully be the case once more with the upcoming fourth season of the show.
The trailer for the new season has shown that Bojack has gone missing and that big changes have happened in his absence. The finale of season 3 ended with Bojack almost committing suicide, before stopping at the last moment when he sees wild horses.
It seems that Bojack has yet to return and may have found solace in a simpler life. This state of affairs likely won't last long, otherwise, there wouldn't be a fourth season.

First They Killed My Father
Angelina Jolie has moved away from the front of the camera and is now taking an active role behind it. First They Killed My Father is the fifth feature film directed by Jolie, which was part of a deal to bring the movie straight to Netflix, rather than it having a regular theatrical run.
First They Killed My Father is based on a memoir of the same name, which was written by Loung Ung. The story is about Ung's upbringing in Cambodia, where she lived through Pol Pot's fascist regime.
Ung's family was forced to hide their wealthy background and had to separate across the country in order to survive. First They Killed My Father is the story of a family trying to survive under the Khmer Rouge, which was a period in which over two million Cambodians were killed.
First They Killed My Father is joining Netflix on September 15th.
Final Fantasy XIV Dad Of Light
Final Fantasy XIV might be as boring as dirty dish water to play, but there is no denying that Square Enix put a ton of effort into building the land of Eorzea. Netflix is about to show the world the camaraderie that is forged when two people play together in an MMO. In the case of Dad of Light, it is a father and son who bond over the game.
Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light looks like the episode of South Park where they play World of Warcraft. The show is based on a series of posts made by a blogger, who grew closer to his father as they got older due to their mutual love of Final Fantasy XIV.
Dad of Light is a straight up adaptation of these posts, as a father who has entered retirement finds solace in playing Final Fantasy XIV with his son, which helps bridge the gap between them and allows them to connect in a way that they had never done before.

Strong Island
When it is suspected that a person has been murdered, the police will usually draw up a list of people who may have committed the crime, with one of them being the prime suspect. Strong Island is the story of a man who became the prime suspect in his own murder case.
Strong Island was directed by Yance Ford, who made a documentary about the death of his brother William Ford. In 1992, William Ford was shot dead on the doorstep of his home by a white man who claimed he did it in self-defense, despite the fact that Ford was unarmed.
The documentary follows the story of a family trying to get justice in a country where the system is stacked against them due to the color of their skin. Strong Island has won numerous awards on the independent circuit, so it is no surprise that Netflix wanted to bring it to the masses.
Strong Island is joining Netflix on September 15th.
City Of God
Brazil was never really known for producing independent movies in the same way that other countries do. However, this all changed in 2002 with the release of one of the rawest and most harrowing gangster movies of all time: City of God.
City of God is set in the Cidade de Deus neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro throughout the '60s to the '80s. It chronicles the rising gun crime and the gang warfare that took over the region.
The story follows a wannabe journalist who ends up chronicling the war between the gangs led by Li'l Ze and Knockout Ned, which involved dragging children into armed conflicts. City of God offers a unique look into how poverty and firearms turned one of the most populous cities in the world into a war zone. The movie currently has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
City of God is coming to Netflix on September 1st.
Narcos (Season 3)
Netflix surprised most of the viewing audience by creating one of the best crime dramas ever made in 2015. What makes this surprising is that most of the show is in Spanish and requires subtitles to be enjoyed in English. Despite this, Narcos has gone on to earn a place alongside shows like The Sopranos and The Wire as being one of the greatest crime dramas on TV.
The first two seasons of Narcos followed the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, who was one of the most wealthy and powerful drug lords of all time. Escobar was killed in the second season of Narcos, which led many fans to believe that the show would end with his death.
The cartels still survived after Escobar was killed, however, as his death left a power vacuum that many ruthless gangsters wanted to fill. It is up to the DEA to take down the Cali Cartel once and for all.
The third season of Narcos is coming to Netflix on September 1st.
The Jaws Collection
Netflix is adding one of the best movies of all time... and a bunch of other ones that you should probably skip.
Jaws is one of the greatest thrillers of all time. It made several generations of children afraid to get into the bath after watching it. If you can get over how dumb the shark animatronic looks in certain scenes, then you will see a film that will make you terrified of large bodies of water until the day you die.
The original Jaws, as well as three sequels, are being added to Netflix. You should probably ignore these sequels unless you really like to see franchises having the dignity squeezed out of them. However, it is possible that you could extract some enjoyment from how dumb the Jaws sequels are, kind of like if The Room had a shark in it, but we aren't making any promises.

The Walking Dead (Season 7)
Fans of The Walking Dead comic book will likely agree that the series had hit a slump before the arrival of Negan. The storyline concerning Alexandria only got more boring with each issue and Carl managed to miraculously survive being shot in the eye, which meant that he had plot armor in a series where no one should be safe. Negan's arrival shook up the status quo and introduced a villain who was both charismatic and hateable.
The seventh season of The Walking Dead brought the Negan storyline to the screen. The cliff hanger from the previous season was finally answered, which led to the horror of Negan's control over the region.
Rick has to try and unite the local settlements in opposition against Negan and the Saviors. There are some zombies around too, but they have diminished as the main reason why people still watch this show.

Beauty And The Beast
Disney has had a lot of success with creating live action adaptations of their classic animated movies. It doesn't matter how inferior they are or if they are so similar that it was pointless even making them, as they have managed to print money at the box office.
The latest live action Disney adaptation was of Beauty and the Beast. Emma Watson stars as Belle, who lives in the same part of France that Captain Picard comes from, as she retains her British accent throughout the film.
Her father is taken prisoner by the Beast, a prince who was transformed into a monster by an enchantress. Belle takes her father's place as the Beast's prisoner and a romance blossoms between the two. She learns how to love someone despite their appearance (though the big castle probably helped).
Beauty and the Beast received praise from critics and brought in over a billion dollars at the box office, making it one of the highest grossing movies of 2017 so far.
Beauty and the Beast is coming to Netflix on September 19th.
