One of the most charming Netflix series in recent memory is the comedy Sex Education. The film explores the lives of teens at a British high school as they navigate the various complicated relationships of youth. As the title suggests, a lot of the issues addressed are related to sexual relationships, but the show also deals with friendship in a beautiful way.
Sex Education makes a point of showing that not all friendships are perfect and there is often a lot of problems that arise. But the best friendships on the show remain strong and supportive no matter what challenges they may face.
The Untouchables
Every school has its group of popular kids and it's no different for Sex Education's Moordale High. The elite clique, known as "The Untouchables," includes Anwar, Ruby, and Olivia.
They see themselves as above the other Moordale students and can be quite cruel. However, they also seem to be as insecure as the rest of the school and they find comfort with each other. The Untouchables might be awful people, but they like each other.
The Quiz Heads
The smartest students at Moordale compete on a quiz team known as the Quiz Heads. They are very academic and talented individuals, but there was some initial friction when they came together.
With petty judgments being thrown around and certain members of the team acting selfishly, they didn't make the best team. But the Quiz Heads soon found a way to work together and make it to the championship while also getting closer. They may be colleagues more than friends but they make a winning team.
The Detention Girls
In a Season 2 episode, someone leaves some obscene graffiti in the girls' locker room and a handful of the female students are forced into detention together to determine who is at fault. While the group is made up of some girls who have occasionally butted heads, the situation allows them to bond.
The girls discuss such their differences and their struggles before sharing moments when they were sexually harassed throughout their young lives. In the end, they come together to help each other face their problems even if they don't become friends for life.
Adam And Ola
Adam Groff is a difficult person to get to know. Dealing with a strict father and his own questions about his sexuality, Adam can often lash out with anger and violence. However, the kind and sensitive Ola managed to break his hard-exterior shell when no one else could.
The two meet while working at a shop together. Adam initially tries to blow off Ola's friendly attempts to get to know him, but she eventually breaks through. They stand up for each other and offer support during various hard times.
Jean And Maureen
Not all the friendships in the series are between the kids. One of the most charming and supportive friendships that develop is between two of the students' mothers, Jean Milburn and Maureen Groff.
The two women first meet when Maureen comes to Jean for sex therapy, and a genuine relationship is formed. They realize that each of them is in need of female companionship and a good friend they can have fun with.
Lily And Ola
Lily is one of the more unusual students at Moordale and in the best way possible. She has an incredibly creative mind and pursues it without worrying about what anyone else might think. Her confidence also allows her to be a great support for her friend Ola.
When Ola is a new student at Moordale, Lily is the one who helps to make her feel welcome. She also provides a shoulder to lean on when Ola is having trouble in her relationship with Otis. Eventually, these two develop romantic feelings for each other, but it started with a lovely friendship.
Maeve And Aimee
Maeve and Aimee seem like an unusual pair at first. Maeve is the tough and aggressive girl from "the wrong side of the tracks" while Aimee is a soft-spoken rich kid. Aimee is also one of the members of "The Untouchables," who are especially cruel to Maeve.
Aimee keeps her friendship with Maeve a secret, which isn't very friendly, but she eventually dumps the popular kids in favor of Maeve. The girls are always there for each other, knowing what the other is really thinking and helping each other through tough times.
Jackson And Viv
Jackson and Viv only start hanging out in the first place when Jackson needs a tutor. They seem to be complete opposites in the school hierarchy. Jackson is a popular athlete while Viv is an intelligent outcast.
During their study sessions together, these two form an unlikely bond through helping each other. Viv helps Jackson become a better actor while he helps Viv talk to boys. They tell each other their most intimate secrets and look out for each other's interests even when they don't see it themselves.
Otis And Maeve
The relationship that is at the center of Sex Education is between Otis and Maeve. These outcasts don't have much in common, but they come together to start a sex therapy business for their fellow students.
While working together, these two form feelings for each other that can sometimes complicate their relationship. But in the end, Otis and Maeve always make each other better and provide mutual emotional support.
Otis And Eric
While Maeve and Otis might love each other, it is not the same way Otis and Eric love each other. These two have an unbreakable bond that is the most charming and heartfelt relationship on the show.
They also make mistakes and treat each other badly from time to time, but they do not let anything destroy the incredible connection they have built. They push each other to do the things they've wanted to do, they celebrate each other for who they are, and they love each other without hesitation.
