Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has found its Aunt Zelda in actress Miranda Otto. The show about the teenage witch comes after the success of Riverdale on The CW, which updated the classic Archie comics by subbing in murder, drugs, and gangs. The new show will be adapted from the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic written by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. He is also serving as showrunner on the spin-off.

Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka is playing Sabrina Spellman, the young, eponymous half witch, half mortal who leads the show. The cast also includes Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina's best friend Rosalind Walker, Doctor Who alum Michelle Gomez as Sabrina's favorite teacher who is possessed by Madame Satan, and Chance Perdomo as Sabrina's trouble making warlock cousin Ambrose. And most recently, Wonder Woman's Lucy Davis was cast as Sabrina's Aunt Hilda. In the original series, Hilda was played by Caroline Rhea, and she was the more laid back and fun one of the sisters. And now, another sister has been cast.

TV Line reports that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has cast Lord of the Rings and Homeland actress Miranda Otto as Aunt Zelda. The character was originally played by Beth Broderick in the Sabrina the Teenage Witch show, which aired from 1996-2003. The character description for Zelda reveals a little about her personality and what Sabrina will have to deal with.

Proud and devout, Zelda believes there is no greater honor than serving the Dark Lord as a member of the Church of Night. She is the family’s disciplinarian, fiercely protective of Sabrina and very much Cain to Hilda’s Abel.

Since Sabrina is a teenager, she will no doubt disagree with her aunts and their opposing views on how she should wield her powers. The show has been described as a "dark coming of age story" that finds Sabrina "wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.” This could be interesting, especially if Sabrina's Aunt Zelda is one of these dark forces with her allegiance to the Church of Night.

The only significant character who has not yet been cast in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is Sabrina's love interest, football player Harvey Kinkle. Nate Richert played Harvey in the original series. So far the cast has done a good job of balancing newer faces like Perdomo and Sinclair with genre favorites like Gonzales and Davis. Otto, who played the fierce Éowyn ("I am no man") in the Lord of the Rings films, is another strong addition to the cast, no doubt thanks to super casting director David Rappaport.
