Netflix's On My Block first dropped back in March 2018 and since then it has been a hit for the streaming series. The teen dramedy follows four best friends from South Central Los Angeles as they navigate the usual growing pains of high school that are escalated because of the town they live in. After four seasons, the show sadly has come to a close but fans are in luck because a spin-off with all new characters is in the works.

While the series was popular for many reasons, one of the most common reasons viewers flocked to it was because of the likability of the main and supporting characters on the show. Not only were these characters unique and diverse but they had amazing personalities that helped elevate the comedy and the drama on the show for four seasons.

Abuelita

Most On My Block fans will agree that Abuelita (Peggy Blow) was the funniest character on the show which definitely makes her likable. Like many devoted grandmothers, Abuelita babied her grandchild, especially her favorite, Ruby (Jason Genao), for whom she did everything.

But she wasn't a typical grandparent and instead encouraged Ruby and his friends to get into all sorts of trouble. In fact, she helped them on more than one occasion, going as far as being their getaway driver.

Cesar

Cesar (Diego Tinoco) has one of the most unique character arcs on On My Block which is what makes him such an interesting character. With his mom deceased and his father absent, Cesar was raised by his older brother who was a member of one of the local gangs.

Despite his many setbacks in life, Cesar remained a mostly optimistic character. Though he did have some character flaws, fans couldn't help but love and support him. That was especially true when he was helping out his close friends.

Dwayne

Parents in teen shows often don't get a lot of screentime and if they do it's usually to embarrass their children. On My Block broke that mold with Dwayne (Eme Ikwuakor), Jamal's (Brett Grey) father.

Dwayne is a fantastic father to Jamal and loves him unconditionally including his son's quirks. But Dwayne is also a generally good person and gives Cesar a job at his BBQ restaurant in the hopes of getting him on the right path in life. He even extended the offer to Cesar's estranged father proving he's a guy who believes everyone deserves a second chance. Dwayne is the parent every fan wishes they had.

Jamal

Though he might not be the star of On My Block, many fans consider Jamal to be the best character on the show. Not only is he hilarious, but he also has one of the most interesting plots of the entire series when he sets out to find the infamous "roller world" money.

It's not just Jama's wild adventure that makes him likable though, but rather his personality. Jamal is an anxious character whose anxieties manifest through comedy. He's quick-witted and never afraid to call out his friends when they're not treating him fairly.

Jasmine

Jasmine (Jessica Marie Garcia) definitely didn't start out as a likable character to fans or the others in the show, but she slowly and surely won everyone over. Loud and opinionated, Jasmine never shied away from letting everyone know what she thought but that turned out to be a positive trait to have

As the series progressed, she forged a close friendship with Monse (Sierra Capri) over their shared family struggles, bonded with Jamal in later seasons, and even started dating Ruby. She even helped the group stay out of trouble while trying to was the "Roller World" money.

Isabel

Though Isabel (Andrea Cortés) only joined the cast of On My Block in season 4 in a recurring role, she quickly won over fans' hearts. She's introduced to fans right away as Oscar's (Julio Macias) wife and mother of his unborn child.

Isabel is a character who values family, which is clear by the way she encourages Oscar to reach out to Cesar before they leave Free Ridge. Fans also love her for the positive influence she has on Oscar.

Monse

As the only original girl character in the group, Monse had to put up with a lot. From Jamal's wild plans and Ruby's eccentricities to her will-they won't-they relationship with César, Monse was juggling a lot. That's not even to mention headling with her overprotective father and estranged mother.

And yet, Monse didn't let any of that slow her down. She remained a deeply loyal friend and put herself in harm's way on multiple occasions to protect her friends and family. She also never gave in to what others wanted her to do and remained fiercely independent throughout all four seasons.

Oscar

Oscar at home in On My Block season 3

Oscar had one of the best character transformations of On My Block as a whole which is why many fans believed he deserved better than the ending he was given. However, even when Oscar was parading around as Spooky, head of the Santos, fans had a soft spot for him.

While he might have committed several crimes, the love he had for Cesar made him redeemable. He took a bullet for Cesar on more than one occasion, literally and figuratively. He was also there for Cesar's friends whenever they needed him to be in whatever way they needed him to be.

Ruby

Like Jamal, Ruby is an anxious character whose anxieties manifest in comedic ways but in a more dramatic fashion. He has a certain flair for dramatics and spend half the series thinking dying a virgin was the worst thing that could ever happen.

While his dramatics are entertaining, Ruby really won over fans by being extremely loyal and protective of his friends. He's the friend everyone turned to when they needed to vent because they knew Ruby would listen. In a lot of ways, he was the glue keeping the group together even if he didn't realize it.
