Here Are The Best TV Shows And Movies Coming To Netflix In October 2018

Netflix Shows October 2018

It’s the spookiest season of the year - and Netflix has something for everyone with their new additions for October 2018.

Unsurprisingly, the streaming service is getting ready for Halloween by adding plenty of horror, from classics like The Shining to the brand new Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. However, there are lots of other options for those viewers who aren’t obsessed with all things scary! In addition to some great flicks from the past few decades, Netflix is also continuing to add to their original programming, with new seasons of Big Mouth and Daredevil, as well as a new British drama and a couple of film festival favorites to binge while eating too much Halloween candy (and then buying more for the actual trick or treaters, of course).

Here are our top picks of what's coming over the next month, including both Netflix Originals and liscenced picks.

15. The Shining

Start the month with this classic adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name starring Jack Nicholson. The Shining may be a movie that has been parodied to death since its release in 1980, but that doesn’t make it any less frightening - and who wouldn’t be terrified of creepy twins, elevators full of blood, and an insane family man with an axe? And of course, this is far from the only Stephen King adaptation available on the streaming service, so get ready for a binge…

Arriving: October 1

14. Blade (& Blade II)

Wesley Snipes in Blade Trinity

Last month, superhero fans were thrilled to see Marvel’s Black Panther hit Netflix, and now an earlier black superhero is also coming to the streaming service: Blade. Both Blade and Blade II are being added to the Netflix catalog at the start of the month, and the story of the super-powered vampire hunter is a perfect binge for horror fans and superhero lovers. Unfortunately (or perhaps now), Blade: Trinity is not on the streaming service, so fans can’t marathon the whole trilogy quite yet.

Available: October 1

13. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Kevin Costner in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves

The story of Robin Hood has been told on the big screen time and time again, but for many, this early ‘90s version is still the best. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves features a star-studded cast, including Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater and Alan Rickman, and all the action and romance that we would expect from the man who robbed from the rich to give to the poor. Watch it before the latest adaptation, Robin Hood, hits theaters in November.

Available: October 1

12. The Green Mile

Tom Hanks Quiz - The Green Mile

More Stephen King joining Netflix on the start of October 2018, although this isn’t his usual horror - instead, get the tissues ready for this tear-jerking fantasy drama about death row inmates. Starring Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan, The Green Mile was nominated for four Oscars and features stunning performances all around. Expect a little magic, and more than a little tragedy.

11. The Neverending Story

For anyone who really wants to have a good sob, follow up The Green Mile with The Neverending Story for a nostalgic visit to the Swamp of Sadness. A cult classic, this fantasy tale is sure to please viewers of all ages - whether you are watching it with the kids for the first time, or revisiting favorite scenes from your own childhood.

10. Monty Python (Life of Brian, The Meaning Of Live)

For those who aren’t looking for horror or tearjerkers, the unique humor of the Monty Python boys is also coming to Netflix this month, with the addition of both Life Of Brian and The Meaning of Live. Life Of Brian is the hilarious (but controversial) spoof on the story of Jesus Christ, and is a perfect example of classic Python. The Meaning of Live, meanwhile, is a much more recent offering - a documentary about the crew’s final performances together in 2014.

Featuring the Hormone Monsters, this is a laugh-out-loud comedy that will also have viewers cringing as they binge the second season.
