Here Are The Best TV Shows And Movies Coming To Netflix In January 2019

All the best shows and movies coming to Netflix in January 2019, including Ant-Man And The Wasp, Polar, Watchmen, Incredibles 2 and Solo.

Now that 2018 is over, it's time to look forward to what's in store for 2019 - and Netflix's January 2019 additions are looking good. Users of the streaming service saw some great additions in December 2018, including the psychological thriller Bird Box, which captivated audiences around the world, as well as the release of Avengers: Infinity War.

Between all the monster and superhero movies, though, users found time to watch some of Netflix's best Christmas movies over the winter break, but now that the holiday season is coming to an end, it's time to see what the streaming giant has coming up to keep its subscribers coming back for more content.

January 2019 is packed with plenty of classic movies joining the streaming service, as well as (of course) many, many Netflix originals. Big name additions include Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Incredibles 2, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, but there are plenty of great watchable programs coming to your TV this month that you may not have heard of.

15. A Series of Unfortunate Events (Season 3)

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 and Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf

Neil Patrick Harris returns as Count Olaf for the third season of A Series of Unfortunate Events - and this is the final season of the show. A Series of Unfortunate Events season 3 adapts the final four books of the series, so fans can expect to see many of the mysteries of the show resolved. A few new faces will be joining the cast, too, as well as all the major players from the first two seasons.

Arriving: Jan 1

14. Indiana Jones

Get ready for some classic adventuring, as all four Indiana Jones movies are coming to Netflix this month (although fans might be slightly less excited about Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull than the original trilogy). Harrison Ford stars as the intrepid archeologist who made a generation believe that there were far more booby-trapped tombs in the world than there actually are - definitely a movie marathon excuse!

Arriving: Jan 1

13. The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger as The Joker and Christian Bale as Batman in The Dark Knight

Netflix adds to its catalog of superhero movies this month with multiple more recent hits, but The Dark Knight is also coming to the service. The second part of Nolan’s Batman trilogy, it remains arguably one of the best Batman adaptations for the big screen - however, the complete Dark Knight trilogy is not available to stream, so fans will have to content themselves with one at a time.

Arriving: Jan 1

12. Watchmen

Another comic book adaptation to join the streaming service this month is Watchmen, a darker look at an alternative world where retired heroes must investigate the murder of one of their own. Don’t expect the usual massive-universe stuff with this one - or a happy movie about saving the day. A re-watch is a great way to get ready for the upcoming Watchmen TV series, as well.

Arriving: Jan 1

11. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may be leaving Netflix this month, but Star Wars fans can take heart from the arrival of the latest film in the franchise: Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film follows a young Han Solo and Chewie, and while it boasts an impressive cast, it failed to really land at the box office. If you missed the May release on the big screen, it’s the perfect time to catch up.

Arriving: Jan 9

10. American Crime Story: The Assassination Of Gianni Versace

The crime anthology series American Crime Story returns with a second season, this time looking at the famous murder of designer Gianni Versace by spree killer Andrew Cunanan. This Emmy-award winning FX series was a smash hit in the spring, so this is the perfect time to see what everyone was talking about if you missed it the first time around.

Arriving: Jan 17

9. Girl

Another film that had everyone talking in 2018 was Girl, a Belgian film about trans ballerina Lara. Girl was well received at the Cannes Film Festival, but caused controversy with both casting and subject matter. Many were concerned about yet another film about a trans character casting a cis actor as the lead, and LGBTQIA2 advocates were also vocal about some of the ways the body dysphoria was presented in the film. Watch it and decide for yourself!
