This weekend, Netflix will welcome a documentary series about drugs, a docuseries about a serial killer, the third part of a fantasy animated sitcom, and a sci-fi movie. With the future of cinemas around the world still unknown due to the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to force many to close temporarily, streaming services continue to be the main source of entertainment for the audience, as well as the option for studios to release those movies that couldn’t hit theaters. Netflix has not only housed some of those movies, but it also continues bringing new content every week and for all ages and tastes.

Last weekend, Netflix added David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the animated movie Charming, and Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, along with the documentary The History of Swear Words, the docuseries Surviving Death, the drama movie Pieces of a Woman, the French TV series Lupin, and the documentary Pretend It’s a City. This weekend, the streaming giant will bring the French comedy-drama The Intouchables, the dramas An Imperfect Murder (also known as The Private Life of a Modern Woman), A Monster Calls, and Radium Girls, the fantasy movie Hook, seasons 1 to 3 of Henry Danger, and season 5 of The Magicians.

Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy

Crack Cocaine Corruption Conspiracy Netflix

Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy is a Netflix documentary series that takes a look at the crack epidemic since the early 1980s. Now, decades later, the destructive effects of this drug on people’s lives, families, and communities are still deeply felt. Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy examines not only the personal devastation caused by the drug but also the shadowy origins of the crisis and the resultant, ongoing marginalization of Black and Brown people trapped by the U.S. prison and healthcare systems.

Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer

Richard Ramirez in Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer on Netflix

Netflix has a double dose of documentaries this weekend, and the second one is Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer. This limited docu-series tells the true story of how one of the most notorious serial killers in American history was hunted down and brought to justice. In the summer of 1985, a record-breaking heatwave hit Los Angeles, along with a series of murders and sexual assaults that at first seemed disconnected, as the victims were men, women, and children, ranging in age from six to 82 and coming from different neighborhoods, racial backgrounds, and socioeconomic levels. Told through first-person interviews, archival footage, and spectacular original photography, this four-part series represents the definitive telling of this L.A. real-life horror story, painting a portrait of how it felt to live in fear at a time when anyone could be the Night Stalker’s next victim.

It follows Bean (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), a rebellious teenage princess with an alcohol problem who is accompanied by Elfo, a naive elf, and her destructive “personal demon” Luci. Part 3 will pick up where part 2 left off, as Bean, Luci, and Elfo were stuck in a catacomb surrounded by Trogs. Part 3 will also take viewers to Steamland, a technologically advanced steampunk country with a complicated relationship with Dreamland.
