This weekend, Netflix is bringing a new crime docuseries, the final season of a fantasy horror TV series, a vampire movie, and the third season of coming-of-age comedy-drama TV series. As the world continues to adapt to a new normal amidst the coronavirus pandemic, and theaters around the world are open and working again, streaming platforms haven’t lost any force, as they continue to house movies that skipped a theatrical release or shorten the window between theatrical and streaming release – and, of course, many of them have a lot of original content to share, too. Such is the case of Netflix, which keeps adding new licensed and original content every week for all ages and tastes.
Last weekend, Netflix welcomed a bunch of licensed content, most notably the drama movie 8 Mile, the rom-coms Bridget Jones’ Diary and Bridget Jones’ Baby, the supernatural horror movie Constantine, Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, the comedies Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Miss Congeniality, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the sports comedy Space Jam (1996), and Sam Mendes’ Skyfall, along with the docuseries Trainwreck: Woodstock ‘99, the animated movie Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, and the fantasy drama TV series The Sandman. This weekend, the streaming giant will see less licensed content, with the arrival of the action comedy The Nice Guys, the South African sci-fi movie Office Invasion, and the comedy crime movie Dope.
As for original content, Netflix’s subscribers will get to enjoy a docuseries about a murder case, the final season of Locke & Key, a vampire movie starring Jamie Foxx, and the return of Devi Vishwakumar and friends. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend - August 12.
I Just Killed My Father
The latest addition to Netflix’s extensive catalogue of documentaries is the docuseries I Just Killed My Father. Through three episodes, I Just Killed My Father tells the unbelievable, never-been-told-before true story of the Templet family. Anthony Templet shot his father and never denied it, but the question of why he did it is quite complex and with profound implications that go far beyond one family. The series explores the psyche of Anthony leading up to the events of June 3, 2019, and the journey of his mental and emotional aftermath.
Locke & Key – season 3
The final season of Locke & Key is now available to stream on Netflix. Locke & Key follows Nina Locke (Darby Stanchfield), who after the murder of Rendell Locke, moves with her three children, Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), from Seattle to Matheson, Massachusetts, and take residence in Rendell's family home, Keyhouse. The children soon discover a number of mysterious keys throughout the house that can be used to unlock various doors in magical ways, but they also become aware of a demonic entity that is also searching for the keys. In this final chapter, the Locke family uncovers more magic as they face a demonic new foe who's dead-set on possessing the keys.
Day Shift
Day Shift is a vampire action comedy film directed by J. J. Perry in his directorial debut. Day Shift follows Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx), a hard-working blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is actually a front for his real source of income: hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters. Also starring in Day Shift are Dave Franco, Natasha Liu, Karla Souza, Scott Adkins, and more.
Never Have I Ever – season 3
The coming-of-age comedy-drama TV series Never Have I Ever is back with its third season. Never Have I Ever centers on Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a 15-year-old Indian-American Tamil girl from Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, dealing with the sudden death of her father and everything that life as a teenager brings. In season 3, Devi and her friends may finally be single no more, but they're about to learn that relationships come with a lot of self-discovery… and a lot of drama, too.
