Netflix continues to beef up its catalog of original titles this April, with multiple new movies and Netflix Original series hit the streaming service this month. Of course, those aren't the only new offerings this April, as the streaming service also adds several classic films and other series, including family-friendly animation, new seasons of favorite shows, and some classic movies.

New Netflix Originals, meanwhile, cover everything from the history of women in the space program to an adaptation of Japanese cult classic Monkey, to Netflix's first Filipino series pick-up Amo. And of course, one of the most talked about additions this month has to be the brand new series adaptation of sci-fi classic Lost In Space. 15. Bad Boys

Bad Boys 3 gets a new title and release date

This '90s action classic starring Will Smith is a must-watch for any fan of car chases, buddy cops, and every other action-comedy cliche in the world of film. Bad Boys may not be an Oscar-winner, but it's pure Michael Bay enjoyment, with plenty of ridiculous explosions and fast-paced action in a winning (if predictable) formula. And of course, this is Will Smith at the peak of '90s cool - and if just one Bad Boys movie isn't enough, the sequel, Bad Boys II, is also available to stream.

14. Cold Mountain

For those that aren't into the Bad Boys action flicks, Oscar Winner Cold Mountain is also coming to Netflix this month, and is sure to appeal to those who would prefer to spend their time on a dramatic historical epic. Renee Zellweger, Jude Law, and Nicole Kidman star in this Civil War movie about a wounded soldier heading home to his sweetheart in North Carolina.

13. Friday Night Lights

No, not the more recent TV series of the same name - this new addition to the Netflix catalog is the original sports drama movie released in 2004 starring Billy Bob Thornton (the series was previously available to stream, but left Netflix in October of 2017, and has yet to make a reappearance). However, both the series and the film are based on the same book (Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream), so if you loved the TV version of the Permian High School Panthers' story, you'll probably enjoy the film, too.

12. Jane The Virgin (Season 4)

Jane The Virgin wraps up its fourth season on the 20th of April, and the entirety of Season 4 will then be coming to Netflix for those fans who would rather binge-watch the adventures of Jane (Gina Rodriguez) in a single weekend. The first three seasons of this telenovela-inspired series about a young woman who is accidentally artificially inseminated are already available to stream, and the exact arrival date of season four has yet to be announced, so it's the perfect time to catch up if you haven't already been watching.

11. Scarface

Fans of classic gangster films will be happy to hear that Scarface is going to be available to stream on Netflix from the first of the month - joining Goodfellas (added last month) and The Godfather trilogy (added in January). Scarface is the story of Tony Montana (Al Pacino), an exiled Cuban criminal making his way in the world of organized crime in Florida. Get ready for a whole lot of drugs and gloriously excessive violence with this one.

Morgan Freeman Brad Pitt in Se7en

10. Se7en

Morgan Freeman and Bradd Pitt star in this Oscar-nominated thriller about a serial killer working his way through the seven deadly sins. Se7en is famous for its oft-parodied "what's in the box?" scene, as well as its stomach-turningly slick visual effects and tense drama. Definitely one for those fans who want to welcome spring with some good ol fashioned gore.

9. Sin City

Another one for the gore-hounds, Sin City is the stylized and beautiful adaptation of Frank Miller's comics of the same name. The majority of the film is presented in black and white, with only a few objects retaining their brighter colors (including the buckets of blood spilled throughout the film). As well as being stunningly beautiful, the film is gloriously dark, refusing to shy away from the grim source material. Definitely not your average comic book movie!

8. The Iron Giant

For those who aren't looking to fill their April with sex, drugs, and bloody vengeance, Netflix is also adding a few family favorites... including the adorable 1999 animation The Iron Giant. This sweet story is about a giant robot from outer space who lands on Earth and finds a friend in the shape of a small boy. The Iron Giant tackles some big issues of prejudice and fear, and will both warm your heart and make you reach for the tissues.

7. Despicable Me 3

Family franchise Despicable Me continues with this fourth installment, the follow up to Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2 and prequel spinoff Minions (none of which are currently available to stream on the service). This latest film follows Gru as he reunites with his brother, Dru - a far more cheerful and successful version of the evil genius himself.

6. Bill Nye: Science Guy

Bill Nye already has one incredible popular series available to stream on Netflix; Bill Nye Saves The World, a new series that has already had two fantastic seasons. However, for those who prefer some original flavor Bill Nye, Bill Nye The Science Guy is also hitting Netflix at the end of April. This quirky '90s classic is fantastic viewing - for fans of the original looking for some nostalgia, or for anyone who missed it the first time around.

Netflix has picked up its first series from the Philippines, the drug war drama Amo, launching on the streaming service April 9. Following on from other series that explore the global drug trade like Netflix Original Narcos and docu-series Drug Lords, Amo tells the story of a young man who starts out small to make some extra cash, and ends up entangled in the violent world of dealers, crooked cops and corrupt government officials.

4. Lost In Space

Netflix takes a swing at adapting classic sci-fi in this new original series based on the original '60s TV show of the same name. Lost In Space doesn't veer too far from the source material in many ways, with the same familiar Robinson family finding themselves off-course and having to deal with all kinds of problems as a result. The devious Dr Smith (Parker Posey) and rogueish Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) join them in what could be the next big thing for Netflix.

3. The New Legends of Monkey

Another highly anticipated new Netflix Original series is The New Legends Of Monkey, a live-action series based on the cult Japanese series from the '70s, Monkey. Originally broadcast over January and February in Australia, the series is now coming to Netflix at the end of the month.

Fans of Hidden Figures will love this new event mini-series based on the book The Mercury 13: The True Story of Thirteen Women and the Dream of Space Flight. Mercury 13 adapts - as the title suggests - the true story of thirteen women who were in the running for spaceflight with NASA in the early '60s. However, despite passing the same tests as the male astronauts, they were dismissed on account of their gender.

The Letdown

This Australian comedy about motherhood is sure to be a binge-able delight, as it charts the life of Audrey (Alison Bell), a new mother determined not to let her baby define her. She has to contend with all the stresses of being a new mom as well as those of having a career-driven husband, self-obsessed mother, and her best friend (who definitely isn't a mom). The Letdown is not just hilarious, but at only seven episodes, this will be easy to binge in a single sitting.
