Netflix’s very first music competition show will feature Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, and T.I. The newly released trailer of Rhythm + Flow doesn’t provide too much of the essence of the competition, but it is clear that Netflix is experimenting with their format, hoping for a win.

The streaming services background was mostly involved with movies, and original TV show hits like 13 Reasons Why and Peaky Blinders, but now Netflix has expanded into the realm of singing. This will be Netflix’s first adventure into the world of TV talent shows. The show and network are aiming to compete with other network shows such as The Voice and The Masked Singer.

Netflix announced that it would begin streaming Rhythm + Flow, a new music reality show. The show will have ten hour-long episodes airing over a three-week period. This three-week premiere will show the auditions, rap battles, music videos, samples, collaborations, and the finale. ET interviewed Cardi B, who will also take part in the show, and she said that the hip-hop competition will really make its mark. The rapper went on to say that the show is not looking to be another talent competition, but to find a genuine rap artist - basically the next Cardi B. She continued to say that “there are a lot of people like me; we just gotta find them.”

Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow will not be using the same blueprints as other talent shows that have come before it; as the show is hop-hop's first legitimized competition, it will be able to stand on its own. The streaming service has convinced legendary rappers such as T.I., Chance the Rapper, and Cardi B to be their very own talent scouts. These veterans of the music business will be the ones who will try to discover the next best rap artist. Cardi B unveiled a sneak peek of the upcoming show when she was headlining at the 2019 Made in America Festival in Philadelphia. The trailer showed Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, and T.I. as judges during the audition phase. They were seen in cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York City. Wearing pink hair, Cardi B cried out “Let the games begin!” as she boarded the judges' private jet to one of the auditions, holding champagne and eating a strawberry.

To say the music world is excited is an understatement. No network has tried to air a rapping competition before; there have been many singing and talent shows such as American Idol, X-Factor, and America’s Got Talent, but none specifically concentrated on the world of hip-hop. Even though fans will have to be patient as Netflix will be showing the competition show over the course of a couple of weeks unlike most of the rest of their library where viewers can binge whole seasons, the show is bound to be a hit. Starting on October 9, fans can watch as judges search for the next artist who is dedicated and ready to make a name for themselves on Rhythm + Flow.
