In December 2021, Netflix is welcoming some popular characters back, such as Geralt of Rivia, Emily Cooper, the Fab Five, and the Professor, and will add movies starring Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as (of course) more Christmas content. Streaming platforms became the solution for studios during the coronavirus pandemic as they provided a home for some of their movies that had to skip a theatrical release, and they also became the main source of entertainment for many. Now with cinemas around the world open and working again, streaming services haven’t lost any force, and in Netflix’s case, it has managed to keep its audience's attention by adding new licensed and original content every week.

November saw the arrival of movies like The Harder They Fall, Love Hard, Red Notice, Passing, The Princess Switch 3: Romancing The Star, tick, tick... BOOM!, and Bruised, along with the fifth season of Big Mouth, the second batch of episodes of Tiger King, and the live-action version of Cowboy Bebop. December will also see new licensed content though less than in previous months, with some of the most notable titles being Closer, Final Destination 5, Looper, The Legend of Zorro, and Darkest Hour, among others.

As for original content, Netflix will see the return of some of its most popular TV shows, as are The Witcher, Emily in Paris, Queer Eye, and Money Heist, along with Adam McKay’s latest project and a drama movie starring Sandra Bullock. Here’s everything releasing on Netflix in December 2021.

Asakusa Kid

Set in mid-1960s Asakusa, a somewhat seedy part of Tokyo, Kitano dropped out of college in search of something better, and took a job at the Asakusa Furansu-za theater known as a hall of fame for strip shows and comedy, where he soon became an apprentice of the legendary comedian Senzaburo Fukami. Fukami was the comedy master behind other famous comedians such as Hachiro Azuma and Kinichi Hagimoto, who disavowed television and only believed in the live stage. Kitano worked hard under Fukami to polish his craft and achieve his dream of becoming a successful comedian. However, as home television became ever more popular, live comedy gradually fell out of favor.

With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media-obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical.
