Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all had their own shows on Netflix, and all of those shows were cancelled - but which is most deserving of a reboot on Disney+? Disney’s streaming service is the new home for Marvel TV, as indicated by the long list of shows in development for the platform. Unlike the Marvel shows on Netflix, which were never acknowledged by the cinematic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and all the rest will share deep connections to the wider MCU.

Now that Marvel’s partnership with Netflix has been terminated and all of the shows in the New York City-based Defenders-verse have been cancelled, Marvel can begin to consider revisiting those characters. According to the terms of the deal with Netflix, Marvel has to wait two years after the ending of each show before using the characters again. After this waiting period is over, Marvel will be free to create new versions of them and bring the Defenders into the MCU proper. But since Marvel has so many heroes on their plate for the foreseeable future, they’re unlikely to use them all - or at least, not any time soon. Moreover, the worlds of Jessica Jones and the Punisher may be a bit too dark to ever work on the family-friendly platform of Disney+.

That leaves Marvel with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil. Any of the three street-level heroes could be the protagonist of a new Disney+ show. All three would be fundamentally different on Disney+ since they would have to be toned down for a PG-13 rating, but that shouldn’t be a problem. None of them needs to be R-rated to be compelling. As for which one is the best candidate for a revival, perhaps the best option available is for Marvel to pick not one, but two, and let them share a TV series: specifically, a Luke Cage & Iron Fist show. Daredevil already had a three-season run that was well-received by fans and critics (particularly its first and third seasons). The reaction to Iron Fist was considerably less warm, however, and teaming Danny Rand up with his frequent partner in crime-fighting from Marvel Comics could be the perfect way to reboot the character.

Marvel should create a story that Netflix never tried to tell, which it can’t really do if it tries to re-adapt Luke Cage, Daredevil, or Iron Fist’s origin stories. A Luke Cage & Iron Fist show could finally deliver the comic book-accurate crime-fighting duo that the Netflix shows denied viewers. They shared a friendship in the Netflix shows, but it was never a focal point. This team-up show could also have the option of keeping Mike Colter and Finn Jones in the titular roles as a revival rather than a full reboot, so that it's fresh but still satisfying to fans of the original shows (not to mention opening up opportunities for cameos from the Netflix versions of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and the Punisher).

Disney+ could jump right in by skipping or only briefly addressing the heroes' origins (which have already been covered), and going straight to Luke Cage and Iron Fist starting up Heroes for Hire, a business they ran together for years. In the long-running Power Man and Iron Fist comic in the 1970s, the two superheroes used their abilities to earn a living. Typically, a character would hire them for a job that would pit them against a formidable adversary. On several occasions, this opponent would be an established Marvel Comics villain. Often, their activities would cause them cross paths with other heroes. A similar formula could work well on Disney+, and could create possibilities for fun crossovers with Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and more.
