There are movies and TV shows from so many different countries around the world that viewers have access to with just the tap of a button.

Although many of these shows are dubbed in English to help them to appeal to a wider audience, there are also a number of viewers that aren't bothered by subtitles and have no problem with watching the shows that only have audio in their original language. Whatever the case is, these international shows are totally binge worthy and prove that there's so much more to Netflix than just Stranger ThingsBoJack Horseman, and Hollywood. While those shows are all great, these international shows on Netflix are definitely worth checking out.

Blood & Water (South Africa)

Released in 2020, Blood & Water is a South African Netflix original that is set in Cape Town and is full of drama. Although the first season of this series only has six episodes, the show is packed with all kinds of drama, twists, and turns to keep viewers entertained the whole way through.

The show follows a high school student named Puleng who has grown up in the shadow of her sister, Phumele, who was kidnapped shortly after her birth. After she meets a girl named Fikile at a party, Puleng becomes convinced that Fikile is her long lost sister. The show follows as Puleng deals with family drama and tries to uncover the truth about what happened to Phumele and whether or not Fikile could be the girl her family has been searching for.

Terrace House (Japan)

Fans of reality TV that feel like they've seen it all will love the Japanese reality franchise Terrace House. This series is like a Japanese version of American reality shows like The Real World and Big Brother in that it puts six strangers into a house together and simply films their interactions as these people get to know each other.

Along with the strangers living in a house together, the show is unique because it has a panel of commentators that are watching the show along with the viewer. These commentators give their opinions on what's happening inside the house and it's definitely fun to hear another person's view on all the romance, friendship, and drama brewing among these six strangers.

Ares (Netherlands)

Named after the Greek god of warAres is a Dutch horror-drama series that premiered in early 2020. The first season of the series has a mere eight episodes, but that's definitely enough to get anyone who likes all things spooky hooked on this show and anxiously awaiting the second season.

Ares follows a college student named Rosa who is attending her first year of medical school in Amsterdam. Shortly after starting at school, she decides to join a secret society known as Ares, but it's not long before Rosa realizes that this group is much more than a simple club and things take an incredibly dark turn for this bright, young student.

Cable Girls (Spain)

Cable Girls is a Spanish period drama set during the 1920s in Madrid. The series follows after the first telephone lines were put in the city and four young women take jobs at the telecommunications company. Working for the company gives each of the four women this series follows as they take on the job and gain some independence and financial security of their own during a time when women didn't exactly have those freedoms. The show follows as these women, nicknamed "cable girls" because of their job, face the struggles of trying to gain independence in Madrid in the 1920s.

Crash Landing On You (South Korea)

There are a number of super popular K-dramas on Netflix, but one of the most popular lately is Crash Landing on You. For people that love drama and romance, this series is the perfect one to check out.

The series follows an heiress from South Korea who is out paragliding when a tragic accident causes her to crash land somewhere she had no intentions of ever going: North Korea. There, she meets a an army officer who lives in the country who decides to help her hide out in the country. The series aired 16 episodes during 2019 and 2020, all of which are available on Netflix now, so viewers can watch as these two deal with their differences and their unique circumstances.

Ragnarok (Norway)

Ragnarok is a Norwegian fantasy drama based on figures from Norse mythology. The series is set in a small, fictional town that begins to experience the environmental impact of climate change in a big way thanks to the pollution caused by the factories owned by the richest family in the area. The pollution and melting glaciers seem like they're going to spell the end for this small Norwegian town, but a legendary figure from ancient Norse mythology steps up to help save the town.

Baby (Italy)

Loosely inspired by real eventsBaby is an Italian drama that premiered in 2018. The series follows a student from an elite school in Rome, Chiara, who is bored with her privileged but ordinary life. When she meeds Ludovica, she's drawn in by this charming troublemaker and the two of them start escorting despite the fact that they're both underage. Ludovica is doing it for money while Chiara is simply looking for some thrills. The true story that inspired this show was a major story in Italy and the series based loosely on it is every bit as scandalous.

Sacred Games (India)

Sacred Games is an Indian crime series that premiered in 2018. The series follows a police officer named Sartaj Singh who receives an anonymous tip related to the whereabouts of an infamous criminal and sets out to the streets of Mumbai to track him down.

Dark (Germany)

Dark is a German TV series that's part family drama and part intense sci-fi thriller and is all-around worth watching. This series follows a town that is trying to deal with the disappearance of two young children. The mysterious disappearance exposes ancient secrets between four of the families living in this German town that may be the key to uncovering the truth about what happened to these children.
