Charlie Cox wears the hero's cowl again to rewatch Daredevil season 1 from the comfort of his own home. Daredevil season 1 made its debut in 2015, where it was met with a great reception from fans and critics alike. The series ran for two more seasons on the streaming platform before being cancelled by Netflix shortly after season 3 premiered. Netflix would later axe its other Marvel properties, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher and Iron Fist.
After the comic book character had been absent from the zeitgeist for over a decade, the series served as a reboot Daredevil. Following the 2003 adaptation starring Ben Affleck, which was met with a considerably negative response, fans were clamoring for a new, refreshing take on the character. The series starred Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Scott Glenn and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Daredevil season 1 focused on the origins of Matt Murdock, his childhood following the car accident that gave him his abilities, and his training that prepared him to become the man without fear. The freshman season also gave a detailed backstory to Fisk as the show built to their inevitable confrontation as sworn enemies.
Daredevil showrunner and executive producer Erik Oleson posted a video to his Twitter page showing star Charlie Cox wearing the famous cowl as he sits to rewatch Daredevil season 1. The video simply shows Cox sitting in his chair, turning on the show, as he puts on the character's cowl and begins to watch silently. The full video is below.
Cox's passion for the series and character has been heavily documented. After Netflix pulled the plug on the series, Cox opened up about the show's cancellation, revealing mixed feelings about the end of his run as the titular character. Cox even backed a fan petition to save the show following its cancellation, urging fans to sign it to show their support. Co-star D'Onofrio even shared the fan petition to save the show as well, in hopes of saving the series from being cancelled. Although fans have been hoping for a revival or new home for the character, Cox has stated that he feels that Marvel will recast Daredevil in the MCU.
Cox was the perfect choice for Daredevil, not only perfectly portraying the comic book hero with a viciousness that made him more lively than ever, but nailing the character of Matt Murdock as well. He gave the character nuanced layers, allowing the audience to fully understand why he begins his vigilante journey and what makes him tick as a person. It's lovely to see he still has the cowl and that he continues to wear it proudly. It's disheartening to know fans won't be able to see what the future had in store for the series, especially since Daredevil season 4 was entirely laid out before its cancellation. However, fans can still revisit the three stellar seasons of Daredevil streaming on Netflix.
