Finding ourselves some space to think has been an important side effect of this lockdown. What is as important as mental freedom is the ability to let go of our worries and simply laugh. Comedy exists for this very purpose, to show us what is wrong—or right—with a world in a way that makes us feel less stressed about the situation.

There is no dearth of comedy, from stand-up to podcasts to TikTok videos. However, there is nothing like watching a funny movie, especially one that causes unending spurts of laughter while, at the same time, cuts straight to the bone. To make it an easier pick, we have chosen a few choice comedies from Netflix's collection and ordered them based on how apt they seem to each of the twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac.

Rat - Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a meta-comedy film in that it often breaks the fourth wall and includes funky animation to depict emotions and sounds. However, what makes this movie is Scott himself, an awkward teen musician in love with a classic Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Ramona Flowers. Rats will identify with Scott's sharp wit and biting comebacks, but more so with his drive to make Ramona his girlfriend—not quite an easy task considering the multitudes of exes Ramona has left in her wake, all of whom want Scott out of the picture.

Ox - As Good As It Gets (1997)

As Good As It Gets – Ox Cropped

Those blessed by the Ox will enjoy the OCD-fueled antics of Melvin Udall, a romantic author with some rather conservative attitudes towards society. In a way, Melvin is like an Ox himself, given his unwavering determination when it comes to maintaining an aura of perfect hygiene wherever he goes or his inability to clearly communicate his emotions due to his severe obsessive-compulsive disorder. Nevertheless, Melvin must break his strict codes if he wants to inspire a romance with his favorite waitress.

Tiger - Hot Rod (2007)

Tigers will adore Rod, a wannabe stuntman, whose incredible guts are only matched by his recklessness. Unfortunately, Rod finds that accidents are a fundamental part of his body, making his dreams seem more distant than ever.

However, like a true Tiger, Rod is much too competitive to give up on his dreams. To reach his goal, he must perform the most dangerous stunt ever: jumping across 15 school buses in a row while riding his moped.

Rabbit - Groundhog Day (1993)

Groundhog Day is considered one of the warmest comedy movies of all time and is sure to leave one with a tingling sense of happiness. The gentle Rabbit will especially identify with Phil Connors, who beings the film as a jaded TV reporter who refuses to look on the bright side of anything but slowly turns into a kinder, more empathetic person after he gets caught in a time loop and is forced to live the same day over and over again.

Dragon - The Interview (2014)

Dragons will find themselves laughing at their own negative traits—aggression, refusal to accept criticism, arrogance—as they watch the stellar parody of North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-Un, played by Randall Park. The Interview is a satire of two TV hosts who go to North Korea and interview Kim Jong-Un, who is a fan of their show Skylark Tonight. However, the CIA gives them an alternative mission: to secretly perform Kim's assassination.

Snake - We're The Millers (2013)

In We're The Millers, David is forced into a debt with his drug supplier, and, to make things even, he must travel to Mexico and return with an extremely illegal shipment. Snakes tend to be cunning in nature and can easily relate to the main characters of the film as they create detailed plans—which often involve split-second improvisation—to complete their task with a minimum number of casualties. Snakes have a tendency towards wealth, much like David's motivations, as he's willing to do the job for a huge sum of money.

Horse - Tootsie (1982)

Dustin Hoffman dressed as a woman in Tootsie

Horses are known for their sparkling banter and perennial energy with a dash of narcissism. They will love the role of Tootsie, a snarky soap opera character played by actress Dorothy Michaels, who is, in fact, played in drag by struggling actor, Michael Dorsey.

Over the course of the movie, Tootsie turns out to be a hit with audiences, although nobody is aware of the real situation. Things begin to get complicated when Michael starts falling in love with Julie, one of the show's stars.

Goat - Swiss Army Man (2016)

Hank and Manny talking on the bus in Swiss Army Man

Swiss Army Man is not for everyone; as a movie with flatulent corpses—who are still, somehow, alive—it can alienate many viewers with its audacious narrative. However, Goats, who are usually filled with compassion and friendliness, will find both Hank's and Manny's tender personas endearing. In typical Goat fashion, Hank stops himself from committing suicide, so he can take care of Manny, who, being dead, cannot move... or do much of anything, really.

Monkey - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

One of the most iconic teen movies of all time, Ferris Bueller's Day Off is about the joy of living in the present and forgetting, just for a moment, about all the rules that hold people down. Monkeys, who are generally clever and curious, will be drawn to Ferris, as he spends an amazing day out and about town, instead of attending school with his friends. However, Ferris' natural creativity ends up blended with his impulsive nature, creating possible problems for him with the suspicious principal of his high school, Rooney.

Rooster - Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1975)

King Arthur and his knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Roosters are the most vocal of all the signs, never backing down from an argument, regardless of what it's about. They will certainly enjoy Monty Python And The Holy Grail, considered a gold standard in comedy, with its irreverent satire on religion and morality.

Performed as a series of skits, this film is a hilarious twist on the mythological quest for the Holy Grail, where the characters come to quirky situations, such as watching a set of knights fight with bushes, escaping from a murderous rabbit or an annoying Black Knight who refuses to die even when all his limbs are lopped off.

Dog - Zombieland (2009)

Zombieland is a parody of the usual zombie movie. In this world, survivors must follow a strict code of guidelines and tactics to avoid being murdered by the ravenous creatures. This need for rules is easily understood by Dogs, who get the importance of following a plan by the book. Dogs will also identify with the strong sense of loyalty and trust shared by the main group of characters as they make their way to LA across half the country.

Pig - The Edge Of Seventeen (2016)

Hailey Steinfeld in The Edge Of Seventeen .

Pigs are best known for their hard work and perseverance, irrespective of what the world throws at them. This hardboiled tenacity is reflected in the character of Nadine, who has to survive high school in The Edge Of Seventeen. Her determination to improve herself—to do better at school and make new friends —is catalyzed by her teacher, Max Brunner. After her dad dies, Brunner plays the role of Nadine's substitute father, counseling her through her struggles.
