Netflix has announced that original holiday film series A Christmas Prince is set for a third installment titled A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby. Set in the holiday season, the third film will continue to follow the lives of Amber and Richard as they navigate life as royalty - and now with a baby on the way.
The cheery holiday-themed franchise kicked off in 2017 with A Christmas Prince, which became a sensation on the streaming giant, and quickly developed a large fan following. The story follows journalist Amber (Rose McIver), who must go undercover to get the scoop on Prince Richard (Ben Lamb). In the style of a classic fairy tale, the Prince is quite taken with the charming Amber, and the two begin their happily ever after. The 2018 sequel, A Christmas Price: The Royal Wedding, dives into the conflicts of wedding planning and political crisis, which are cured by the holiday spirit and ends with a royal wedding. Soon, it'll be time for fans of the franchise to witness the big next life event for the royal couple.

Netflix took to Twitter and posted a sonogram with a baby wearing a crown. The caption of the photo reads, “Some personal news…” , with the text “Baby Makes 3”, and a tease that the third film will arrive in the holiday season of this year. Details of the plot have also emerged. In The Royal Baby, Amber and Richard host royals from a different kingdom, and find themselves threatened by an ancient curse after a 600-year-old treaty disappears. Apparently, a baby on the way is not the only event in store for Amber and Richard.
McIver is set to reprise her role as Amber, and has previously been busy as Tinkerbell in Once Upon a Time and Olivia Moore in iZombie. Lamb will also return as Prince Richard, along with Alice Krige, who plays Queen Helena. The Royal Baby is slated to be in the familiar hands of John Schultz, who directed The Royal Wedding, and Nate Atkins who penned the new script and wrote The Royal Wedding and A Christmas Prince.
A Christmas Prince has been noted as resembling the timeline of events in the lives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (Suits). Each film release has seemed to coincide perfectly with the headlines of the real-life royal couple. A Christmas Prince has also been called corny and a guilty pleasure. However, while Netflix does not release ratings, it's obvious that the number of streams of holiday oriented films has been enough to make them worthwhile endeavors. The holiday season is the perfect time of year to allow cheesy dialogue, touching moments and outrageous plots to take over in films such as A Christmas Prince and The Christmas Chronicles. While some may not outwardly admit it, there's no doubt many will indeed stream the next chapter of this franchise, and happily witness the birth of The Royal Baby.
