The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina paints a very different picture of Sabrina Spellman than her 2000s-era sitcom did, but Sabrina still comes out on top as one of the most powerful witches on television. As the daughter of Lucifer Morningstar, and, in the most recent season of the series, the actual Queen Of Hell, Sabrina has a lot of magic at her disposal.

All of that power, however, doesn’t always mean Sabrina knows what she’s doing. There have been a lot of magic users on television over the years. In the case of wizards (usually male and usually wise to the ways of young witches), Sabrina wouldn’t always be the superior magic user in a battle.

Sabrina Wins: Alex Russo (Wizards of Waverly Place)

Alex Russo In Wizards Of Waverly Place

The rare female wizard in pop culture, Alex Russo proved herself a formidable one despite her slacker attitude early in Disney Channel’s Wizards Of Waverly Place. She lived in a world where only one member of her family could keep their powers, and she claimed them over and over before realizing the importance of putting her family first.

That’s all well and good, but a teenager who can change objects and create bursts of lightning is probably no match for the Queen of Hell that is Sabrina Spellman. Sabrina has access to more dark magic than Alex could ever dream of.

Sabrina Loses: Merlin (Once Upon A Time)

Merlin In Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time's Merlin takes his inspiration from Arthurian legends, but his power set is actually very similar to Sabrina’s. Like her, he’s great with incantations and potions, can literally stop people in their tracks, transfigure objects, and blast his enemies with pure magic.

Merlin also has a century of experience on Sabrina, is functionally immortal, can heal himself, and is precognitive. In this case, he’s got the edge. He would allow Sabrina’s arrogance to let her think she’d won, and then sweep in at the last second to beat her.

Sabrina Wins: Gargamel (The Smurfs)

Gargamel In The Smurfs

The only animated wizard to leave his mark on the list, Sabrina would best Gargamel in no time. The real question is just how badly she would beat him.

Despite his greed and hatred of the titular Smurfs, and his access to all kinds of wizard lore, Gargamel is not exactly the best of wizards. He frequently makes mistakes and needs his enemies to save him. Sabrina probably wouldn’t have to muster much effort to bring an end to his evil ways.

Sabrina Loses: Stregobor (The Witcher)

Technically speaking, Sabrina is definitely more powerful than Stregobor. He wins here, however, because his strengths in the first season of The Witcher lie in illusions and manipulation.

Sabrina doesn’t have a great track record with illusions. She falls for them again and again. She is also easily manipulated by those around her, taking a long time to learn from her experiences. If Stregobor and Sabrina encountered one another, he would definitely best her the first time. It’s any subsequent encounters that would be more interesting.

Sabrina Wins: Weather Wizard (The Flash)

Weather Wizard AKA Mark Mardon In The Flash

Mark Mardon is the only wizard on the list not to be of the magical variety. Instead, he’s a metahuman who antagonized heroes on The Flash.

The Weather Wizard’s power set is pretty limited. He can only manipulate the weather itself. Sabrina can use spells to do that as well, but she also has a lot of other abilities. Actual hellfire beats thunderstorms in an all-out battle.

Sabrina Loses: Willoughby Kipling (Doom Patrol)

Willoughby Kipling In Doom Patrol.

Introduced as a John Constantine-type character in DC Comics, in DC Universe’s Doom Patrol series, Willoughby Kipling is a bit more disciplined of a wizard than John Constantine is in the Arrowverse. Kipling primarily relies on his own magic to get himself out of dire situations, not research from literally everyone else he knows.

Sabrina tends to lean heavily on those around her — and then completely ignores their advice. That’s what usually lands her in hot water. With Kipling’s experience and ability to wield chaos magic, he would likely best Sabrina the first few times they battled before she came to her senses and asked her aunts for help.

Sabrina Wins: Harry Dresden (The Dresden Files)

Harry Dresden In The Dresden Files

Unfortunately, Harry Dresden only spent a single season on television, though there were plenty more stories in his novels to pull from. As a result, the Dresden on TV isn’t quite as powerful as the Dresden of the novels, and Sabrina could likely take him out fairly quickly.

Much of Dresden's time on TV was spent more as a detective than a wizard. Yes, he has extensive knowledge of the occult and the magical goings-on in his city, but in terms of being able to use his raw power, Sabrina’s got him beat.

Sabrina Loses: Zeddicus Z’ul Zorander (Legend Of The Seeker)

Zeddicus Zul Zorander In The Legend Of The Seeker

Legend of the Seeker is something of a cult favorite for the two seasons that aired. A fantasy series that was heavy on the magic, it featured the most powerful wizard in its universe: Zeddicus Z’ul Zorander. Zed, as his friends called him, was responsible for helping an entire army win a war thanks to his ability to heal others, shield them, and project energy at enemies.

That being said, Sabrina would certainly put up one heck of a fight against him. The two have very similar power sets and levels. Sabrina would only lose to him because her experience lies more in one-on-one manipulations, while Zed could battle whole crowds of people. He’s got a slight upper hand.

Sabrina Wins: Wizard Of Oz (Supernatural)

The Wizard Of Oz In Supernatural

Supernatural did its own spin on the story of The Wizard Of Oz when it sent Charlie to Oz to help save the world. There, it was revealed that the “wizard” was actually a Man of Letters who had been split into his light and dark halves. His darker half became the wizard.

Sabrina wins against him because she would quickly suss out the need to manipulate his more human weaknesses. That is to say, she likely wouldn’t outright target his magical half in Oz, but instead, his very human half on Earth. She wouldn’t have to do a thing but convince Clive to harm himself so that the wizard would fall — not all that different from the events that unfolded in Supernatural itself.

Sabrina Loses: Margo Hanson (The Magicians)

Margo looks expectantly across the throne room in The Magicians

Technically speaking, Margo Hanson doesn’t consider herself a wizard. In the world of The Magicians, the titular characters earn the title when graduating from Brakebills Academy. Those who learn magic outside of a school are hedge witches. There doesn’t seem to be much in between. Margo, however, refused the title of princess or queen when she ascended the throne and made herself King of Fillory, so if she was told she couldn’t have the title of wizard, she’d decide to take it in a heartbeat.

She might not be the most powerful character in the series, but she’s certainly the fiercest. Margo will stop at nothing in a fight, and she will find any sneaky way to get an advantage for herself and the people she cares about. Like Sabrina, Margo usually has a team of people behind her, but unlike Sabrina, Margo would be willing to cross every line to finish a match.
