A new month means that, once again, it’s time to bid farewell to some of Netflix’s best films and TV shows as the service clears out the catalog to make way for new series (and plenty of new original movies, as they start to put more time and money into bigger feature films).
There’s only one series leaving Netflix this September, though, so there’s still time to binge it before we bid farewell to Rules of Engagement - or, for superhero fans, time to squeeze in a last watch of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight before they also head off the streaming service (for a while, at least).

15. 13 Going On 30
13 Going On 30 is a sweet rom-com starring Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner goes time traveling, as a dorky thirteen-year-old girl wishes herself into the perfect future life, complete with a hot boyfriend, a great job with a magazine, and an incredible apartment in New York. However, as she starts to really explore her new life, she learns that everything is not as perfect as it seems… and that what she really wants is to reconnect with the boy next door, who was her best friend before everything changed.

14. Batman Begins
If the DCEU and Batfleck aren’t quite to your taste (or even if they are), enjoy a final watch of Batman Begins, and think fondly of a time before superhero movies existed in massive, multi-movie universes. The first installment in Christopher Nolan’s iconic Dark Knight trilogy, Batman Begins introduced Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, and launched one of the most popular Batman adaptations on the big screen.

13. Dead Poets Society
Get the tissues ready for this tear-jerking classic about the ways that a teacher can truly inspire their students. The late Robin Williams stars in this 1989 film about a boy’s school, and the students who learn how to look at poetry- and life - in a whole new way thanks to a passionate teacher. A film that has inspired generations of viewers, Dead Poet’s Society is beautiful, every time you watch it.

12. Ghostbusters
Bill Murry’s Groundhog Day may be arriving on Netflix this month, but Ghostbusters is leaving - which is sure to sadden plenty of Murray comedy fans. Enjoy the last chance to watch the bumbling team of paranormal investigators as they attempt to take on a supernatural presence much bigger than they should be able to handle… with hilarious results.

11. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
The second installment of Disney’s blockbuster Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, Dead Man’s Chest features Johnny Depp at his Jack Sparrow best, cavorting through the Caribbean in search of a chest that contains the heart of none other than Davy Jones. Swashbuckling family fun - although the whole series is not currently available for a true binge session.

10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Forgetting Sarah Marshall came to Netflix in March, and now it’s headed off again in September - clearly, the beach vibes of this island rom-com suited the summer! Starring Russell Brand, Jason Segal, Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, it’s a star-studded romp through a terrible breakup, and a holiday that finds two exes stuck at the same paradise getaway.

9. The Bucket List
Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman star in this sweet and inspirational film about two cancer patients who are sick of hospitals and decide to do some real living before they die. As the two work through a bucket list, they go skydiving, traveling, and indulge in the best food that the world has to offer. However, as they travel, they start to learn a little more about the regrets of their lives that can’t be solved with a simple plane ticket…

8. The Dark Knight
It’s not just Batman Begins that we are saying goodbye to this September. The Dark Knight also heads off the streaming service at the start of the month, meaning that none of Christopher Nolan’s Batman adaptations will be around to watch in the fall. Superhero fans needn’t despair, though, as there are plenty of new superhero offerings on the way, including Marvel’s Black Panther.

7. The Descent (And The Descent Part 2)
Horror fans will want to set aside a little time before the start of the month for a Descent marathon, as both The Descent and The Descent Part 2 are leaving Netflix at the start of September. The original Descent follows a group of women exploring a cave system that turns out to be inhabited by the bloodthirsty crawlers, while the follow up sees the survivor return to the caves with a new group of people… and both offer plenty of claustrophobic, dimly lit horror to send a shiver down your spine.

6. Rules Of Engagement (Seasons 1-7)
The only TV series leaving Netflix this month heads off on the eleventh, leaving just enough time for dedicated fans to watch all seven seasons… just! Rules of Engagement is a classic sitcom setup starring David Spade as the single friend surrounded by couples as they all navigate the world of relationships in the modern world.

5. Disney’s Pete’s Dragon
One of Disney’s latest live-action adaptations, Pete’s Dragon, disappears from Netflix at the middle of the month, meaning there’s just enough time for the kids to watch before school starts up again. This sweet story of a little boy and a furry dragon that befriends him is a classic for a reason, and the remake is just as lovely as the original (with very different visual effects, of course).

4. A Star Is Born
In early October, a remake of A Star Is Born will be hitting the big screen, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, and there’s still enough time to catch Barbara Streisand’s ‘70s version of the story before it leaves Netflix mid-month. A love story between a has been and a rising star, those looking forward to the new version may want to check out this one first.

3. Moonrise Kingdom
Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom showcases the director’s unique visual style to tell a story about two twelve-year-olds who fall in love and decide to run away. Expect lots of summer nostalgia as the runaways journey across this sunny island - the perfect way to bid farewell to summer and get ready to embrace the fall season.

2. Are You Here
Starring Amy Poehler, Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson, Are You Here is the story of a man with no direction (other than to the nearest bar and the nearest bed), living with a hippy friend and without a real purpose… until his father dies, and he has to return home to fight his sister for the inheritance. Although generally poorly received, Are You Here may still be worth a watch for anyone who is a big fan of the stars.

1. The Imitation Game
Benedict Cumberbatch stars in The Imitation Game, the Alan Turing biopic about his attempts to crack a German code machine during the Second World War. Love, identity, expectation and more are explored in this drama about a man who was trying to do something that everyone claimed simply couldn’t be done.
