One Day At A Time Netflix

While Norman Lear created some of the best sitcoms of the past, a remake of one of his classics proved his style has not waned in popularity. One Day at a Time follows a Cuban-American family headed by a single mother dealing with her own personal struggles while also raising her dysfunctional family. The show would tackle big issues but never lost sight of the sitcom antics that provided the laughs. It was a show that embraced its old-school sitcom feel in an effective way.

The Murphys eating dinner in F is for Family

There are plenty of great animated comedy series on Netflix, but subscribers should not overlook F is For Family. 23 American Vandal (2017-2018)

Dylan Maxwell stands in front of a cork board with evidence from American Vandal

The mockumentary format has been used to create some of the funniest comedies in movies and television and American Vandal deserves to be mentioned alongside those hits. Spoofing true-crime documentaries, the show is set in high school and investigates cases of immature pranks and vandalism centered around obscene drawings and toilet gags. Despite the seemingly childish humor, American Vandal is a sharp commentary on modern entertainment as well as constructing genuinely clever mysteries in each season. Of course, it is also hilarious in its silliness and satire.

22 After Life (2019-2022)

Tony and Lisa hugging in a still from After Life

21 Santa Clarita Diet (2017-2018)

Sheila with a broken arm and Joel covered in dirt in Santa Clarita Diet

Silly comedy and graphic violence is a mix that not many shows have succeeded at but Santa Clarita Diet is a rare example of how wonderfully these elements can blend. Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant make for a brilliant comedic duo as a suburban married couple whose lives are turned upside down when she dies and comes back to life with a craving for human flesh. Seeing these two navigate this new situation terrific fun with lively performances from the talented cast. While a lot of people would have liked to see the show continue, Santa Clarita Diet's season 3 ending worked as a perfect unplanned finale.

20 Trailer Park Boys (2001-2018)

There are fun guest stars and quotable lines galore.

19 Master Of None (2015-2021)

Aziz Ansari in Master of None

Coming off of the sitcom ensemble of Parks and Recreation, Aziz Ansari stepped into the spotlight creating and starring in his own series. Master of None finds him playing a young struggling actor in New York City looking for love and hanging out with his friends. Master of None helped to usher in the new era of prestige comedy series with a show that could have funny nonsense episodes as well as deeply thought-provoking ones. The show would sometimes leave the main characters and focus on completely new characters to tell a one-off story. It made for a beautiful, engrossing, and funny series in the early days of Netflix.

18 Jane The Virgin (2014-2019)
