Jeffrey Dean Morgan says that Negan and Maggie's (Lauren Cohan) "intense" meeting in The Walking Dead season 9 will give viewers goosebumps. With both Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and Cohan preparing to exit the post-apocalyptic drama this year, the people behind the show are making sure to wrap up both of their characters' story arcs in a satisfying way. And suffice to say, if Maggie doesn't get the opportunity to finally confront Negan for killing Glenn (Steven Yeun) back in the season 7 premiere, fans of the character will lose it.

Admittedly, the list of people who want revenge on Negan is long, but if anything, Maggie should've been the first in line, considering how his actions turned her life upside down. Sadly, that wasn't the case in the last couple of seasons of the show. Luckily, fans won't have to wait for too long to see Maggie finally confront the man who heartlessly murdered her husband in front of her, as the pair is scheduled for an overdue meeting sometime in the new season of The Walking Dead.

Catching up with Us Weekly at Paley Fest in New York City, Morgan teased fans about what to expect when Maggie finally gets her time to face off with Negan in The Walking Dead. And from the sound of it, said scene will not just be emotional and intense, as showrunner Angela Kang reveals that it's also "surprising." Here's what Morgan said of the sequence:

"We were very excited to have the opportunity to work together because other than the initial meet with her in clearing on her knees, I never had the chance to do anything with Lauren. These two characters, her especially, have been waiting a long time to have a little one-on-one time. And Negan knows it. Negan knows that she’s been looking for him and he’s waiting on her. When they get together, it’s very intense. It’s very emotional. I think the audience is gonna get goosebumps. It’s very heavy."

It's interesting that after two full seasons of being the main antagonist on the show, Negan has yet to face Maggie - the person who arguably presents the most danger to him. The Walking Dead has focused a lot of time on the rivalry between Rick and Negan, and somehow along the way, the conflict between Maggie and Negan - which is definitely more intense and personal - has been sidestepped. AMC opted to build the characters separately, with Maggie rising through the ranks and becoming a leader on her own, still motivated by the fact that her husband was brutally murdered by the bat-wielding bad guy.

At the end of season 8, however, it became clear that Walking Dead had to finally address the two's long-awaited face-to-face. Maggie openly disagreeing with Rick's decision to spare Negan's life was an effective reminder of the immense pain brought to her by Negan, not to mention a set-up for their first encounter since Glenn's death. However, with Cohan appearing in just a handful of episodes this season, it'll be interesting to see if the show will focus her arc solely on the idea that she's out for revenge regardless of who stands in her way, or if there's another surprising subplot for the beloved character that will lead the way to her exit.
