One way Need For Speed can compete with Forza is through the game's more extensive customization options, as to access upgrades in Need for Speed Unbound, players must first purchase a vehicle in the story mode. Players can initially claim one of three starter vehicles, which include a Dodge Charger and NISSAN Silvia, but only cosmetic upgrades can be applied to the player's vehicle at this point in the story. To unlock full access to customization and performance features, players need to progress approximately one hour into the story and restore Rydell's car dealership. Players will then be able to purchase a wide range of vehicles and upgrade each car's performance.
How to Purchase and Install Car Upgrades
Similar to how players can customize and upgrade cars in Forza Horizon 5 Need for Speed Unbound players can purchase and install performance upgrades in any garage across the open world, which includes Rydell's car dealership, the first garage players encounter in the story mode. Once players enter the garage menu, they can navigate across to the 'Rides' option and select the 'Performance' menu. From here, players can purchase a limited selection of upgrades for their car's engine and handling, to increase the vehicle's top speed, traction and maneuverability.
To access the entire catalog of upgrades, Need for Speed Unbound players must purchase part packages from the 'Upgrade Garage' menu. There are four different upgrade packages to unlock, which consist of sport, pro, super and elite upgrades, which must be unlocked in sequential order. Unlike AFK credit farming in Gran Turismo 7 players can earn credits to unlock these upgrade packages cars in a realistic time frame. These collections will allow players to access the most sought-after upgrades for each vehicle, with the top-tier package setting players back 100,000 in-game credits.
