In the underhive of Necromunda: Hired Gun, players have one soul to count on, their cyber mastiff. A loyal furry companion to have the players back in a fight and out wandering. To help him survive longer in a fight and increase his abilities, players can modify him with the help of a Rogue Doc.

While the cyber mastiff originally starts as a normal mastiff, these cyber enhancements will not only change his effectiveness in combat but also his appearance. Metal legs, eyes, jaws, teeth, will make him superior to his previous form. The mastiff's modifications are broken down into three categories bionic head, bionic paws, and bionic body.

The Best Early Upgrades for the Cyber Mastiff in Necromunda: Hired Gun

Bionic Head: As a general upgrade, this increases the cyber mastiff's HP each time it is invested in. (four levels)

  • Bionic Nose - Increases the cyber mastiff's detection radius. (four levels)
  • Cranial Armor - Increases the cyber mastiff's head armor. (four levels)
  • Cyber Jaw - Increases the cyber mastiff's melee damage. (four levels)
  • Dagger Teeth - Increases the cyber mastiff's armor penetration. (four levels)
  • Crusher - Increases the cyber mastiff's critical chance.

In the options for Bionic Head, a couple of different options will appeal to different playstyles. This general upgrade is useful for all playstyles and should be invested in. Cyber Jaw, Dagger Teeth, and Crusher are better options for a player that keeps their cyber mastiff close in combat so they can defend them. Whereas, players who are fighting more in a ranged style would likely want to invest in Bionic Nose and Cranial Armor.

Bionic Body: As a general upgrade, this will increase the cyber mastiff's body armor each time it is invested in. (four levels)

  • Internal Implants - Increases the cyber mastiff's base HP. (four levels)
  • Light Autosanguine - Reduces the cyber mastiff's cooldown time. (four levels)
  • Internal Reservoir - Increases the cyber mastiff's combat time before a cooldown. (four levels)
  • Strength Booster - Increases the cyber mastiff's distance that they will fight enemies. (four levels)

Out of the options available within the Bionic Body category, the Internal Implants, Light Autosanguine, and Internal Reservoir are the most useful. This selection will make the cyber mastiff more of a powerhouse. In specific scenarios, where a player wants to fight more ranged and have their mastiff up in front would still find the Strength Booster helpful. While the general Bionic Body option is also useful, it may not be the most needed item on the list.

Bionic Paws: As a general upgrade, this will increase the cyber mastiff's speed each time it's invested in. (four levels)

  • Improved Reflexes - Increases the chance of the cyber mastiff dodging. (four levels)
  • Subskin Armor - Increases the cyber mastiff's leg armor. (four levels)

Out of the Bionic Paw options, both the general upgrade and the Improved Reflexes appear to be the most effective. If the cyber mastiff can dodge more often and more effectively, they shouldn't need to increase their armor as much. Subskin Armor is still a useful upgrade, but may not be necessary if the player isn't having trouble keeping their cyber mastiff alive.
