Here's how Lucas Black's Agent Christopher LaSalle exited NCIS: New Orleans. NCIS began as a backdoor pilot during a season 8 episode of JAG, which introduced Mark Harmon's Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The response was positive enough for NCIS to earn a solo show, which debuted in 2003. While it was slow to gain an audience in the early years, the show would eventually become a massive success for CBS, with season 18 already greenlit.
Outside of the robust success of the main series, the show also spawned two spinoffs that are almost equally as popular. NCIS: Los Angeles has been running since 2009 and is fronted by LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell and will return for an upcoming twelfth series. NCIS: New Orleans debuted in 2014 and cast Scott Bakula as Agent Dwayne Cassius Pride and Lucas Black as his right-hand man Christopher LaSalle, and the show has been running for six seasons thus far.
When NCIS: New Orleans returns for season seven, Lucas Black won't be returning as LaSalle, however. During season 6 Christopher looks into the death of his brother Cade (Clayne Crawford) and during episode 6 the case leads him to a remote cabin, where he's shot by cult leader Eddie Barrett. LaSalle is later taken to the hospital where he's stabilized, but after he briefly regains consciousness and talks with Wade (CHH Pounder) and promises they'll go fishing, he passes away.
This was a genuine shocker to NCIS: New Orleans fans, with Lucas Black later explaining that while he loved the show he left to spend more time with his wife and children. The series at least gave the character a fittingly emotional sendoff and LaSalle's death would cast a heavy shadow over the rest of the season. Pride later tracked down his killer Barrett and shooting him under some ethically dubious circumstances.
Lucas Black's exit from NCIS: New Orleans also freed him up to finally rejoin the Fast Family with the upcoming sequel F9. Black played lead character Sean Boswell way back in the third entry The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift, which is something of the black sheep of the series. Black later returned for a brief cameo in part seven but rumors of a larger role in the next entry The Fate Of The Furious didn't pan out. Boswell will be part of the team for F9, which will also reunite him with his presumed deceased pal Han (Sung Kang).
