Over the past two decades, video game developer Naughty Dog has made a name for itself as one of the best studios in the industry. Its Last of Us and Uncharted franchises have been some of the most acclaimed and best-selling video games of all time.

While awards and sales numbers are one thing, the players' love of the games is another metric of success for the studio. Tanks to IMDb, the most devoted Naughty Dog fans can share their opinions of the studio's games. For those players, these are the best.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2007) - 8.5

Naughty Dog's first PlayStation 3 game, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune took a page out of Tomb RaiderIndiana Jones, and National Treasure while starting to develop its own unique formula. Nathan Drake was a wisecracking everyman whom players came to love, with a great supporting cast, as well.

It's definitely hard to believe Uncharted turns 15 in 2022, but even harder to believe that Nathan Drake wasn't always going to be the franchise lead. According to creator Amy Hennig, the name "Uncharted" was chosen so that it could be an anthology title if players didn't respond well to the first game's characters.

Crash Team Racing (1999) - 8.6

When players talk about racing games, one of two things will come to mind: (1) realistic racing games like Forza and Gran Turismo, or (2) cartoon-style Mario Kart games. While the first category has several different franchises, the second type is obviously dominated and defined by Mario Kart.

Even though Crash Team Racing was outside of Naughty Dog's normal wheelhouse up to that point, and is still an anomaly in their library, the game managed to find a beloved home among gamers. It even garnered a 2019 remake in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.

Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (2001) - 8.6

Jak & Daxter is a PlayStation classic from Naughty Dog

Had Naughty Dog's Uncharted and Last of Us series not had such a monumental impact in gaming, perhaps Jak & Daxter would be more remembered, and perhaps even beloved, than it is, as The Precursor Legacy, the first game in the series, is the only one above an 8.5.

While the other games in the series are still actually rated close to Precursor Legacy, this PlayStation 2 title is still the most favored. While plenty of sequels don't match up to their originals (and this isn't something restricted to video games), it still shows that Jak & Daxter is perhaps the least popular Naughty Dog franchise.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (2017) - 8.6

The first Uncharted game not to feature Nathan Drake as the playable character, The Lost Legacy instead follows Chloe Frazer as she teams up with Nadine Ross and Sam Drake to uncover the Tusk of Ganesh while an Indian insurgency force is also pursuing it.

Originally intended as DLC for Uncharted 4Lost Legacy bloomed into its own game, and although raters didn't respond as highly to it as they did for the series games after Drake's FortuneLost Legacy still manages to impress with its gorgeous graphics, and Chloe's return was exciting for fans of the character.

Crash Bandicoot: Warped (1998) - 8.8

For a game released 24 years ago, Crash Bandicoot: Warped has an impressive rating on IMDb, still in the top 1% of all games rated by the site. Its success is even more impressive when considering it's the third game in the franchise. It not only maintained the series momentum, but improved upon it.

The final story-based Crash Bandicoot game for both Naughty Dog and the original PlayStation, Naughty Dog's run ended on a series high, featuring an adventure across time where Crash and Coco Bandicoot are once again up against series villain Neo Cortex and a newly-unleashed enemy.

The Last of Us: Left Behind (2014) - 9.0

Ellie and Riley go exploring together in The Last Of Us

With The Last of Us's astounding success, it was no surprise that Naughty Dog decided to capitalize on it and release some story DLC focusing on Ellie and her experiences before the main game's story begins. However, it juxtaposes those experiences with her taking care of Joel during the winter segments, so it acts as both a prequel and an interquel to the main story.

Left Behind is also notable for the kiss between Ellie and her friend Riley, previously introduced in the Last of Us comics and mentioned in  the main game. As players know the story is headed for tragedy, Ellie and Riley's story is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (2011) - 9.0

Nathan Drake in Uncharted 3

Uncharted 3's marketing materials played up one of the most impressive sequences in gaming history up to that point, the cargo-plane sequence where Drake has to fight enemies while essentially floating in the air. This scene was so iconic, the Uncharted movie referenced this game moment while playing it up in its own marketing.

Although the second-lowest rated game in the main series, Uncharted 3 was far from a disappointment, as evidenced by its high score. While the series is known for linear gameplay, however, some of the locations in Uncharted 3 weren't engaging enough to compensate for that like in other games in the series.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009) - 9.4

Not only does Uncharted 2 have some of the Uncharted series' best villains, but it also managed to wildly surpass its predecessor in terms of story, gameplay, locations, and action set pieces. While Drake's Fortune was definitely a Naughty Dog success, few could have foreseen this astounding improvement.

Its story, on the surface, is a copy of the first, in that Nate is against another army of goons searching for a mysterious treasure that ends up being a supernatural force. However, it takes that general premise and provides a lot more to do than Drake's Fortune, and the train sequence still holds up 13 years later.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2016) - 9.5

Uncharted 4 Sam and Nate on Bike

Although Uncharted 4: A Thief's End still carries some of Uncharted's biggest gaming clichés, it managed to become the most beloved Uncharted game for IMDb. Part of this, no doubt, is Uncharted 4's improved graphical and gameplay abilities, and the fact that its PS5 remaster, Legacy of Thieves, holds a 9.2 rating bears this out.

However, Uncharted games are driven by their stories, and while the past games were rip-roaring action adventures, Uncharted 4 also manages to squeeze in a lot of human drama into it alongside its adventure elements. Come for the set pieces and action, but you may just wind up with some tears by the end.

The Last of Us (2013) - 9.7

Last of Us Multiplayer Spin-Off Detailed By Naughty Dog

What originally began as a pitch by Neil Druckmann for a new Naughty Dog series turned into the fourth-highest-rated game on IMDb, as well as one of the most acclaimed video games in history. Inspired by a real fungus as well as post-apocalyptic stories like Cormac McCarthy's The RoadThe Last of Us showed that Naughty Dog had serious dramatic chops that had never been flexed before.

It's no surprise that The Last of Us Part II was made, considering it was a guaranteed success, and that it's getting turned into a TV show. However, no matter what has or will come after this first game, it will no doubt maintain a permanent place in gaming history as one of the all-time greatest games.
