Though exact connections are still unknown, a new National Treasure: Edge of History video reveals a slew of movie Easter eggs in the series. The Disney+ project centers on Lisette Olivera's Jess Morales, a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who learns of her family's ties to America's past and connection to a lost Pan-American treasure, forcing her to embark on a journey to find the answers and save the treasure. Alongside Olivera, the cast for National Treasure: Edge of History includes Lyndon Smith, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Justin Bartha.

Development on the National Treasure show was first announced in early 2020 when Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer behind the Nicolas Cage-led film franchise, revealed that it was in the works for Disney+. Casting would begin the following year with Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, co-writers of the original National Treasure movie, writing the series. As production continues on the project, audiences are getting their first taste of what's to come from National Treasure: Edge of History.

As part of its San Diego Comic-Con panel, Disney+ has released a behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming National Treasure show, Edge of History. Since it was first announced to be in the works, fans of the National Treasure franchise have been wondering how the show would ultimately connect to the Nicolas Cage movies, namely after it was confirmed Justin Bartha would be reprising his role of Riley Poole. While the National Treasure show video continues to keep much of its story and larger franchise connections under wraps, it does feature a large number of movie Easter eggs sure to excite audiences, including the return of the ocular device glasses from the first movie and the wooden planks from the second film. More excitingly, the National Treasure show video also shows the returns of both Bartha and Harvey Keitel as Peter Sadusky, seemingly no longer an FBI agent as he was in the first two movies.

With the multiple actors from the original films now returning to the fold, it will be interesting to see what other Easter eggs and characters are returning for National Treasure: Edge of History. Given Bruckheimer has confirmed that National Treasure 3 is still in the works for Cage to return, the Disney+ series could act as a bridge between the second and third films and help reestablish the franchise's mainstream popularity. Only time will tell when National Treasure: Edge of History premieres on Disney+ later this year.
