It was officially announced that there will be a National Power Rangers Day set by Hasbro. Fans of the long running series will now have an entire day to celebrate the formative series. The move was made by Hasbro, who purchased the rights to the entire Power Rangers licensing brand from Saban. Created by Haim Saban, the first episode of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series aired on August 28, 1993. It immediately became a success with fans worldwide and remains a popular franchise today.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers followed a team of ordinary teens recruited to become the Power Rangers, powerful superheroes distinguished by their colors and and a unique weapon each Ranger possessed. They all had enhanced strength, agility and fighting skills. In addition to their powers they also fought in large robots called Zords that could combine into a larger Megazord. In the original series, the teens were recruited by the wizard Zordon to fight against Rita Repulsa. Most of the fighting footage was taken from the Super Sentai series, a Japanese TV show.

According to the National Day Calendar, National Power Rangers Day will be on August 28 just in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series. Fans are encouraged to honor the series and their favorite rangers by wearing their colors and tweeting photos and memories of the series with the hashtag #NationalPowerRangersDay. Everyone can be a Ranger on National Power Rangers Day. On the same day, Hasbro will air a new episode that is said to feature the return of several classic rangers and takes place as part of Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel.

The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired for three seasons and spawned a franchise that would include many more teams and a deeper mythology. Boom! is also getting on board with the 25th anniversary by publishing a comic book called Shattered Grid. Power Rangers even made it onto the big screen. There were two films released in 1995 and 1997 as well as a reboot to the franchise, a mildly successful live-action Power Rangers movie released in 2017. Hasbro is reportedly planning a follow up to that last film that is currently in early development. They plan on making multiple films in the franchise.

Since the beginning, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has championed diversity, inclusion and teamwork. It has set an example for a fan base that has included people of all ages. That’s part of the reason the franchise has been able to continue for so long. The fan base has embraced the show and its message. A national day celebrating the series is a wonderful way for those fans to show how much they appreciate it.
