Nolan North, the actor behind Nathan Drake, expressed interest in reprising the role in a potential Uncharted 5 while responding to a fan question about the return of the series protagonist in a hypothetical fifth instalment. The Uncharted series is one of Naughty Dog's most successful IPs, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was widely regarded as the best iteration of the franchise yet - although it also came with a narrative that seemed to wrap up Nathan Drake's involvement in any future games.
That isn't necessarily a lock, though. Nathan Drake's journey seemed to be given a perfect ending as the hero embarks on life as a father and husband with wife Elena and a young daughter named Cassie who is strongly hinted at being a future protagonist. Uncharted 4 director Bruce Straley - who has since departed Naughty Dog - stated that he belives there are many opportunities for "another Nathan Drake game," following up by also indicating he feels player choice should be pushed even harder in an Uncharted 5. The statement has since generated some buzz about the franchise even while Naughty Dog is currently hard at work on The Last of Us 2, a game that was recently delayed until May 2020 to make sure it met the studio's lofty standards.
That hasn't stopped fans from inquiring about how some of the most important actors in the franchise might feel about returning, however. While responding to a question on Twitter about whether or not he'd be interested in reprising the role, Nolan North, the voice behind suave and charming Nathan Drake, replied in the affirmative. The actor is one of the most prolific in the industry and is well-acquainted with Naughty Dog, also having voiced David in The Last of Us.
Even if Uncharted 5 doesn't actually feature Nathan Drake as its protagonist, however, it seems likely the character would be involved in some way - especially if Cassie takes on the mantle of family adventurer instead. Perhaps there's even room for a father-daughter adventure between the two characters, much in the same way that The Last of Us played on that dynamic with Joel and Ellie - and God of War more recently succeeded with a similar exploration of parent-child relationships.
At the very least, it appears once of the key players in the Uncharted series would see no issue with jumping back into the fray in a potential Uncharted 5. That's good news for fans, but any announcements regarding that game will likely be quite a ways off with The Last of Us 2 still in development and the Uncharted film finally gaining steam.
