Naruto Uzumaki doesn't always think before he acts. His impulsivity is as legendary as the Naruto franchise itself at this point. While that tendency can get him in trouble, it also means he's more likely to do a nice thing for someone other people don't trust. He also tends to be more likely to reach out to other characters in need, even if he does sometimes get those characters into even more dangerous situations.

At his core, Naruto is a deeply caring person. Fans might speculate that it comes from him not being shown much kindness as a child in a village that blamed him for the actions of the nine-tailed fox inside him, but whatever the reason, Naruto knows a thing or two about nice gestures and making friends.

Naruto Takes A Blade For Iruka

Iruka standing at his desk in Naruto

Iruka is one of the few adults in the original series who shows a soft spot for Naruto. He sees how the little boy is treated by everyone around him, and he becomes his mentor. Naruto might not initially appreciate the things his sensei does for him when he's young, but he grows to understand how much Iruka has done to shape his life as a teenager.

During the events of Naruto: Shippuden, Naruto doesn't hesitate to step in front of Iruka to make sure he takes what could be a fatal blow himself. Sure, it's an echo of something Iruka does at the beginning of the series for his student, but it shows how much Naruto cares for his former teacher.

He Befriends Konohamaru

Naruto meets Konohamaru in the woods in the original anime series

When Konohamaru makes his Naruto debut, he's not exactly the most likable - but that's because the audience hasn't gotten to know him yet. He's incredibly immature and constantly getting in the way of official Hokage duties to get his grandfather's attention. Konohamaru also immediately sees Naruto as his rival to have the position in the future himself.

Naruto takes Konohamaru's sudden attention in stride. The two might argue like brothers, but Naruto takes Konohamaru under his wing. He teaches him several jutsu (some he would never learn in school), and Naruto's friendship helps Konohamaru be more than just a political leader's relative in the eyes. It's the first time someone has really paid attention to him for who he is instead of who his grandfather is.

Naruto Talks Gaara Down

Gaara putting a hand on Naruto's shoulder in support in Naruto

Temari, Kankuro, and Gaara enter the series as competitors in the Chunin Exams, but Gaara quickly proves himself to be more than the average teenage shinobi. Like Naruto, he has a tailed beast inside of him, and as Naruto quickly discovers, Gaara doesn't exactly have control over it.

When Gaara and his tailed beast go on a rampage, Naruto doesn't outright fight him, which is what everyone else seems to want. Instead, he talks to Gaara. Naruto shows him that he understands exactly what he's going through. He's the first person to treat Gaara like a kid instead of a weapon, and it changes Gaara's entire life.

He Offers Forgiveness To Multiple Villains

Sasuke and Naruto with the Orochimaru

While Naruto's confrontation with Gaara might be the best example of Naruto's "talk no-jutsu" in the franchise, it's hardly the only one. He has a reputation for reaching out to villains instead of fighting them, and it pays off time and time again.

Naruto's kindness extends to Pain, making the Akatsuki leader see the error of his ways. It also extends to Kabuto and Orochimaru despite the two having a hand in shaping the turmoil of his teen years. As Hokage, he allows the two of them to be part of Konohagakure's community. Naruto is a firm believer in second chances and redemption, though some of those villains he goes easy on might really deserve harsher consequences than they get.

Naruto Takes In Kawaki

Naruto and Kawaki face off in Boruto

In the Boruto series, Naruto has grown into a mature and responsible adult. As Hokage, he doesn't jump into too many situations without considering the outcome anymore. That doesn't stop him from doing nice things that others would hesitate to do.

When Kawaki shows up in Konohagakure, plenty of people think the teenager could be dangerous. Naruto, however, sees a young boy with nowhere to go and no one who believes in him, so he gives him a place to stay and a family to support him. Even if Kawaki and Boruto butt heads, it's not just a nice gesture, it's one of trust.

He Sets Out To Save Kakashi

Naruto leads the Konoha 11 in The Will Of Fire

Not all of the Naruto movies fit neatly into the timeline of the animated series, but Naruto's kindness certainly extends to them. In Naruto Shippuden The Movie: The Will of Fire, Kakashi is essentially on a suicide mission. A mind control jutsu activates a seal that will kill him if he can't break it. Kakashi requests the seal from Tsunade because he knows the risk of the mission, but Naruto doesn't accept that someone so important to the safety of the village has no protection to save him.

Naruto takes it upon himself to set out to help his sensei. Sakura accompanies him on his journey, and along the way, the duo has to battle some of their closest friends in order to get close to their teacher. Naruto never gives up though, saving Kakashi just as Kakashi taught them.

He Keeps Faith In Sasuke

Naruto and Sasuke fight at the hospital

When Sasuke defects from Konoha, the entire village is up in arms. He might still be young when it happens, but with his Uchiha bloodline, he's on his way to becoming an incredibly powerful shinobi. While leaders in the village, and even Naruto's classmates, give up on the idea of ever bringing Sasuke home, Naruto never does.

Naruto seems to recognize that Sasuke isn't just out for revenge or power, but that quest is a byproduct of the hurt and betrayal he's felt most of his life. He reaches out to Sasuke time and again, even when they're on opposite sides of a conflict. That faith eventually pays off as Sasuke does return to his home village and becomes one of Naruto's confidantes.

Naruto Embraces Kurama

Having a tailed beast sealed inside of them proves difficult for a lot of characters. The more powerful the creature, the more difficult the task is of keeping them under control. While Naruto tries to keep Kurama under control when he first learns the truth about himself, that's not the case forever.

Instead, Naruto realizes that Kurama isn't solely a force of destruction, and he embraces the tailed beast inside of him. It's just one step in his arc to becoming an understanding and accomplished shinobi. He befriends a creature that literally everyone else is afraid of or wants to use as a weapon.

He Encourages Hinata

Hinata and Naruto sit and talk in The Last: Naruto The Movie

A gentle soul, Hinata doesn't see too many characters believe in her. Even her own teammates initially doubt her abilities, and her father essentially washes his hands of her. It's only her sensei Kurenai and classmate Naruto who believe that she can be strong.

While Naruto's faith does put her in danger in her Chunin Exam match up with Neji, and when stands between him and Pain, it also helps her grow. With his encouragement, Hinata puts her all into training and even develops her own jutsu.

Naruto Saves The World (Repeatedly)

Naruto Uzumaki gives a thumbs up

In a hero's story, it's likely no surprise that they save the world. Naruto, however, saves the world a few times. Despite his peers seeing him as selfish and immature as a kid, when push comes to shove, he always puts everyone else first.

Naruto always puts the safety of his teammates ahead of his own, even if he's the one leading them into danger. He routinely sets out on missions that see his team responsible for whether the world keeps turning - like in The Last: Naruto The Movie, or the final events of the Shinobi World War. Naruto has no problem putting himself on the front lines for everyone else.
