In a cosplay that sees Naruto and Sasuke in flipped costumes, the longtime rivals get all-new looks. Cosplayer @kbt_ta1 and @_mmmaniaaa brought both the popular manga and anime characters to life but with a twist. In the image, Naruto wears Akatsuki garb and joins the group. Meanwhile, Sasuke is seen wearing Konoha's classic Jonin outfit indicating that this universe is one where the two rivals completely switched sides..
Naruto is one of the most popular manga and anime series of all time. Created by Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto originally appeared in Shonen Jump Magazine, where it was published for more than 15 years. The manga followed Naruto Uzumaki - who has a Nine-Tailed Demon Fox sealed inside of him - as he trained and fought to become a Hokage. Meanwhile, Sasuke Uchiha had a tragic upbringing before joining Team 7 to train alongside Naruto and Sakura Haruno. However, he would be given the Cursed Mark by Orochimaru and become Naruto's main rival and adversary. Naruto has published 72 volumes and become one of the best-selling manga ever. The anime was equally as popular, initially running for five seasons before it became Naruto: Shippuden and aired for an additional 15 seasons. The series still runs spin-offs, including Baruto: The Next Generations, to this day.
On their Instagram page, cosplayer @kbt_ta1 shared their and @_mmmaniaaa's take on the popular Naruto rivals. In the photo, based on @gin_6510's design, Naruto and Sasuke have different looks than usual as Naruto (@kbt_ta1) is wearing the long black coat of the Akatsuki, with features the red cloud logo on the chest and side with a high collar on the costume. Next to Naruto, Sasuke is wearing a Jonin jacket with an Uchiha symbol on his arm in a design from @gin6150. It's tempting to wonder if this is an alternate universe where it was Naruto's family slaughtered by Konoha, instead of Sasuke's.
The world of Naruto is extremely popular on the cosplay circuit, as the many looks of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha are among the most tackled ensembles from cosplayers. However, there have been some incredible cosplays outside of Naruto and Sasuke, including a gorgeous cosplay that beautifully captured Hinata Springs. The character designs and details are iconic and among the most instantly recognizable in all of manga and anime.
@kbt_ta1 and @_mmmaniaaa did a fantastic job with their flipped cosplays, bringing @gin_6510's reversed design to life. Who knows, in another life, Naruto and Sasuke might have gone on different paths that would change who they are. The cosplay tells a story that would be fun to see in an alt-universe Naruto tale.
