Starting out as a bratty little prankster whose first technique was the Sexy Jutsu to ending up as Hokage and arguably the greatest ninja in history, Naruto Uzumaki has picked up a slew of techniques that span a number of types of Jutsu.

Over time, his stockpile of Jutsu has grown in both quantity and complexity, either through hours of training or on the fly in the heat of battle. But, what gets lost in the shuffle are not only some of his underused moves, but the fascinating history and facts behind these powerful techniques.

Shadow Clone Knowledge

Naruto's shadow clones are without a doubt his signature move, but a surprising discovery that came years after he first taught himself the Jutsu was that he could actually learn from their experiences.

While training with Team 7 leader, Kakashi Hatake, to learn and master his elemental affinity, Naruto used his newfound discovery to accelerate the learning process and get it down in time to aid his friends in their pursuit of the Akatsuki. With this trick, Naruto has been able to evolve techniques in a fraction of the time of his peers or predecessors, growing as a ninja at an absurd rate.

Cooperation Ninjutsu

Naruto's Cooperation Ninjutsu

A lot of Naruto's Ninjutsu involve his shadow clones in some way or another, but he also has a number of techniques that require another person or animal. A skill taught to him by his beloved sensei Jiraiya, cooperation Ninjutsu is when two or more Jutsu are combined to create an attack far stronger than the individual techniques themselves.

Naruto's taken advantage of cooperation ninjutsu with some of his most trusted companions, including Captain Yamato (Typhoon Water Vortex), Sasuke (Scorch Release: Halo Hurricane Jet Black Arrow Style Zero), and even Gamatatsu (Wind Release: Toad Gun).

Baryon Mode

Naruto's Baryon Mode Jutsu.

Naruto and Kurama, the nine-tailed fox beast sealed within him, didn't get off on the best foot, to say the least, but they have since grown to be inseparable companions that made one of the most formidable teams in shinobi history, and their most recent showcase of that bond is Baryon Mode.

A transformation exclusive to Kurama and its Jinchuriki, it converts the users' chakra to a new form of energy, raising their power level to unprecedented heights. However, a prolonged period of time in Baryon Mode can sap Naruto of his strength and lifespan and can potentially cost Kurama its life.

Yin-Yang Release

A Yin-Yang Jutsu in the Naruto anime.

During the tail end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto performed a number of miracles from restoring Kakashi's left eye to stabilizing the life force of Might Guy who was dying after releasing all Eight Gates in his battle with Madara Uchiha. These unfathomable feats were all possible through the use of Yin-Yang Release.

After meeting the spirit of Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the fabled Six Paths Sage, Naruto was granted the ability to use Yin-Yang Release, the two energies that comprise chakra, thus making them the root of all Jutsu. It can also nullify all Ninjutsu and grant the user the power to harness black chakra (AKA Truth-Seeking Balls).

Tailed Beast Rasenshurikens

Since learning of his affinity to wind nature, Naruto's Rasenshuriken Jutsu has gained almost as much prominence as its predecessor, the Rasengan. Naruto has come up with a slew of variations on the technique, including the Ultra Big-Ball Rasenshuriken, as well as his and Sasuke's cooperation Ninjutsu.

However, a lesser-known iteration is the one he performed with all nine of the tailed beasts. In the battle with Princess Kaguya Otsutsuki, Naruto and eight of his shadow clones each produced a Rasenshuriken specific to each tailed beast, with the resulting attack turning the tide of the battle.

Six Paths Senjutsu

Naruto's Sixs Paths Senjutsu

Often lost in the shuffle of the many revelations at the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War is the fact that Naruto can fly, and that awesome ability comes from his Six Paths Senjutsu.

Granted to him by the Six Paths Sage himself, the Six Paths Senjutsu's flying ability came in particularly handy in the fight against Kaguya, when she teleported Naruto, Obito, and the rest of Team 7 to another dimension inside of an active volcano. Naruto's flight not only came as a surprise to Kaguya, but everyone else, as well—Naruto included.

Chakra Absorption Technique

Naturo's Sharka Absorption Technique.

Chakra absorption techniques can be found in the repertoire of a number of notable shinobi, including Kisame Hoshigaki and Madara Uchiha, and, of course, in the latest Naruto anime, Boruto, Naruto joins the club, as well.

After an encounter with Momoshiki Otsutsuki, Naruto enlisted the help of Katasuke Tono of the Hidden Leaf's Scientific Ninja Weapons Team to replicate Momoshiki's Chakra Absorption. Tono was able to redesign Naruto's prosthetic arm—his original arm was lost in a fight with Sasuke—to do just that, allowing him to nullify and absorb enemy chakra and Jutsu at will.

Six Paths: Ultra Big-Ball Rasenshuriken

The Six Paths: Ultra Big-Ball Rasenshuriken certainly ranks pretty highly when it comes to Naruto's most powerful Jutsu, but it's the transformation behind it that is truly fascinating.

In order to perform the technique, Naruto and two of his shadow clones go into Kurama mode—which is his specific Tailed Beast mode—and then combine, forming an avatar with three faces and six arms. This iteration perfectly mimics the Kurama mode of Asura Otsutsuki, son of the Six Paths Sage and the legendary ninja that Naruto himself is a reincarnation of.

Six Paths Sage Mode

Powered by Six Paths Senjutsu, Naruto can enter Six Paths Sage Mode. But, beyond the commonly known perks of this mode—those being his augmented strength and techniques—the lesser-known and unique perk of heightened sensory abilities is the most notable.

Naruto's heightened senses came up clutch when he and Sasuke battled Madara Uchiha. Using his Rinnegan, Madara projected his shadows into the invisible world of Limbo to attack without being detected. But, thanks to Six Paths Sage Mode, Naruto was able to detect the invisible enemies and overcome a seemingly insurmountable obstacle.

Shadow Clone Origins

The Shadow Clone Jutsu in the Nartuo anime.

While Naruto is probably the most famous user of the Shadow Clone Jutsu, he by no means invented it. Naruto learned the technique from the Scroll of Seals, a scroll full of high-level Jutsu that was hidden away in the Hokage Residence long ago by the mythical First Hokage, Hashirama Senju.

But, while the scroll was kept by the First Hokage, it was his brother, Tobirama (the Second Hokage) who invented the Jutsu. It was sealed away and ruled forbidden due to the large amounts of chakra required to produce and maintain the clones, but, with Naruto's massive reserves of chakra, he is without a doubt an exception to the rule.
