The latest trailer for The CW's newest Arrowverse show, Naomi, reveals how Superman fits into the titular character's origins. Set to premiere on Tuesday night alongside Superman & Lois season 2, Naomi will introduce viewers to a new kind of hero. The character of Naomi was created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell in 2019, making her a relatively new character on the page as well as the screen. The television series, meanwhile, has a pretty impressive pedigree, as it was created by Ava DuVernay, who also directed the pilot.

Newcomer Kaci Walfall plays Naomi, a young teen with a deep love for all things Superman. In the comics, Naomi is a metahuman who develops incredible abilities as a result of her heritage. However, it remains to be seen just how the show plans to adapt her origins. A Naomi trailer released last month offered glimpses of her powers manifesting, but her overall journey is something fans will have to uncover for themselves. One thing is clear, though: Naomi is one powerful girl.

Just one day before Naomi premieres, The CW Network unveiled a trailer for the entire season. It digs deeper into Naomi's life and, surprisingly, offers few superhero adventures. Instead, the trailer plays out like a typical teen drama, albeit one with strong connections to the Man of Steel himself. Still, it's clear there's something special about Naomi that will be uncovered as the season goes on. Check out the trailer down below.

Instead of offering up a typical origin story for a young hero, it looks like Naomi will explore its main character's newfound abilities through her investigation into Superman. At DC FanDome in October, a Naomi clip was released featuring what appeared to be a glimpse of Superman flying high overhead. As the new trailer reveals, though, that incident was a hoax, and Naomi and her friends are determined to understand what happened. At the same time, Naomi looks to be using this investigation to work out the truth behind her own existence, which just might be tied to Superman.

All told, Naomi doesn't feel much like a superhero show based on this new trailer alone. Yes, Superman is referenced with much frequency, but viewers could easily be watching a Nancy Drew-esque show as well. It fits in rather well with some of the Arrowverse's newest offerings, like Superman & Lois and Stargirl; rather than taking a distinctly comic book-like approach, Naomi feels more grounded. It's an interesting route for the Arrowverse to take, and only time will tell how successful it is. It isn't clear if the show will develop stronger ties to the rest of the Arrowverse, but with Superman being mentioned so often, a season finale cameo could be a lot of fun. Let's just see where this ride goes.
