The CW has given out a series order to the DC Comics adaptation, Naomi. Created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell, Naomi debuted as a DC Comics teenage superhero in Naomi #1 in 2019. The eponymous character hails from an alternate universe, but she is sent to Earth after a mass-executioner named Zumbado eradicates all life on her home planet. Since last December, CW veteran Jill Blankenship and TV and movie mogul Ava DuVernay, have been working to adapt Naomi for television. In February, the pilot was officially ordered, and in recent months, the cast for the show has also been rounded out, with Army Wives actress Kaci Walfall essaying the title role. Now there is another update concerning the progress of the show,

As confirmed by DuVernay on Monday, The CW has handed out a series order to Naomi. At the moment, details are scant, as it's not known if the show would be a part of the network's upcoming fall line-up, neither is it clear how many episodes will the freshman run consist of. But as per the executive producer, who has also shared many new images featuring Walfall in the titular role, Naomi will narrate "an origin story of a new hero." You can take a look at the photos in DuVernay's tweet below.

Giving a series order to Naomi is a step in the right direction for The CW, seeking to maintain its position as the go-to spot for superhero series after the conclusion of flagship shows like Arrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning. Many have been keeping an eye out for Naomi as they are keen to see DuVernay bring a fresh perspective to the traditional DC fare. Hopefully, they won't have to wait much longer, as the CW is proceeding with its work on Naomi at a fast clip, so it will likely announce a release date for the series soon.
