Nancy Meyers is making movies once again, as she has signed a deal to direct a new film for Netflix. Meyers, whose most famous works include What Women Want, 1998's remake of The Parent Trap, and The Holiday, hasn't released a feature since 2015's The Intern, which received mixed reviews but did well at the box office. Since then, the only project Meyers has directed is Father of The Bride, Part 3(ish), a mini-sequel that was released exclusively on Netflix in 2020 in order to aid the World Central Kitchen in its efforts to battle the pandemic.

Now, Netflix announces it will continue its partnership with Meyers, who will direct her first feature-length film in seven years for the streaming service. While most of the details are still being kept under wraps, Meyers will be taking full creative control of the project. She will write, direct, and produce the film.

While Meyers' films haven't always hit the mark with some critics, her movies normally manage to draw in a substantial audience which will please Netflix. Her initial decision to take a break from filmmaking came in 2019 at a producers' conference, where she outlined how mid-budget comedies such as the ones she is used to making are no longer favorable in Hollywood. It seems then that working with a streaming service like Netflix will allow Meyers to make films similar to those that made her a household name in the '90s and 2000s. Hopefully, more information about Meyers' new movie is revealed soon.
