The first season of Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet featured two major romantic plotlines that were left largely unresolved at the end of the season - and that season 2 can, and should, give fans resolution on. Both the relationship between Ian and Poppy and the one between Rachel and Dana progressed throughout the course of season 1, but neither has ended up as a couple yet. The upcoming season 2 presents the perfect opportunity for these relationships to come to fruition.
The pilot of Mythic Quest clearly demonstrates that Rachel has romantic feelings for her fellow tester Dana, with her more or less confessing it to Carol. The relationship between Ian and Poppy has been more adversarial, with the creative designer and lead engineer often clashing over whether ideas can be implemented and the direction of the game. However, events towards the end of season 1 saw the two getting closer, with suggestions that there are romantic feelings between the two.
The first substantial hint of romance between Ian and Poppy happened during "Brendan" when Poppy went on a car trip with Ian to meet his distant son. Ian's ex-wife mistakes Poppy for Ian's girlfriend and while she protests (perhaps too much), seeing a different side of Ian brings them closer. In the bonus episode dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, Poppy breaks down from isolation and calls Ian, who breaks quarantine to physically comfort her. How intimate that comforting was is left ambiguous, but the nature of their relationship is definitely edging towards a romantic one going into Mythic Quest season 2. Season 1 also featured Dana's venture into becoming a streamer. While Rachel initially worried that the move would drive them apart, it actually brought the two closer, with Rachel taking Dana to a local arcade and helping her find her own style. With Dana returning to the testers' couch, season 2 could see Rachel finally confessing her feelings. A Rachel/Dana relationship would help provide representation to LGBTQ fans and further develop the world of the more ordinary Mythic Quest employees.
Many comedies have featured a "will they or won't they" romance to keep viewers interest, with some becoming objects of popular obsession. Some of the most prominent examples are Sam and Diane from Cheers or The Office's Jim and Pam. In both of these cases, the couple first got together at the end of the second season, providing resolution to fans without dragging the tension out for too long. AppleTV+ initially ordered Mythic Quest for two seasons, so it would make sense for the central relationships to have a planned two-season arc. While Mythic Quest has fewer episodes than conventional sitcoms, past examples suggest that the second-season finale would be an effective time to finally bring the two couples together.
Of course, getting together wouldn't fully "resolve" these two relationships. There would likely be plenty of conflict (and humor) in making the relationships work. In particular, Ian and Poppy's adversarial nature and work responsibilities could lead to plenty of problems down the road. The upcoming season 2 of Mythic Quest can and should bring its would-be couples together, both to provide resolution and set up interesting plotlines to come.
