Mystery Science Theater 3000 season 13 trailer teases 13 all-new episodes for a full year of riff laughs. MST3K is a movie-riffing series created by prop-comedian Joel Hodgson, and features three main characters (a janitor and his robots) who are forced to watch bad movies at a deep-space base and perform for their mad scientist captors, all while plotting their escape. The "plot" is purely a secondary device for the three main characters to riff on old, cheesy movies, which has been going strong since Mystery Science Theater 3000 premiered on local cable TV back in 1988.

Since its debut, MST3K has grown tremendously in popularity among loyal fans and has appeared on a number of different networks, including Comedy Central, the Syfy Channel and most-recently on Netflix, who canceled the show after MST3K season 12. The show has had a steady rotation of hosts and guest throughout its run, with different hosts representing different "eras" of MST3K. Although popular among fans, the show has had a difficult time finding and sustaining a home network, but a solution has presented itself in the form of crowd-funding (for a second time), which has not only fully funded MST3K season 13, but also given it a dedicated new platform.

If ever there was a show that displayed the power of a fanbase, it's Mystery Science Theater 3000. After two successful MST3K crowd-funding campaigns that far exceeded expectation, it's become a cult show with a following that is more than willing to fund it without any big-name platforms, which have continued to undervalue what the show has to offer. With MST3K season 13 it appears that the novelty of the show is alive and well, with all characters, hosts, and cheesy movies on deck to keep the riff-making fun going. Mystery Science Theater 3000 season 13 kicks off on May 6th exclusively through Gizmoplex.
