Tony Hale must defeat himself in the trailer for The Mysterious Benedict Society, an upcoming Disney+ series. The show is based on a children's book series of the same name by Trenton Lee Stewart, begun in 2007 with a recent installment out in 2019. The books follow four intelligent children who are recruited by an eccentric man to aid him on a mission.

Disney+ shared the official trailer for The Mysterious Benedict Society on YouTube yesterday. Tony Hale stars as the enigmatic Mr. Benedict with the inimitable Kristen Schaal as Number Two. Mystic Inscho (Reynie Muldoon), Emmy DeOliveira (Kate Weatherall), Seth Carr (George ‘Sticky’ Washington), and Marta Timofeeva (Constance Contraire) play the orphans Benedict scouts via a comprehensive testing process. The show will start streaming on Disney+ June 25. Hale has long since proven his chops with ensemble roles on Arrested Development and Veep, the latter of which earned him two Primetime Emmys. A series featuring Hale as its lead (and in two roles, no less) is long overdue, although the enigmatic leader of an espionage mission is a departure from the pathologically attached characters he's known for.

The cast also includes MaameYaa Boafo (Rhonda) and Ryan Hurst (Milligan). Here's the official synopsis for The Mysterious Benedict Society:

After winning a scholarship competition, four gifted orphans are recruited by the peculiar Mr. Benedict for a dangerous mission to save the world from a global crisis known as The Emergency. Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance must infiltrate the mysterious L.I.V.E. Institute to discover the truth behind the crisis. When the headmaster, the sophisticated Dr. Curtain appears to be behind this worldwide panic, the kids of “The Mysterious Benedict Society” must devise a plan to defeat him.
