Since the early ‘80s, My Little Pony has captivated fans with wondrous tales of adventure and friendship, from the original Hasbro toy line to the television series and films that followed. My Little Pony recently received some resurgence with the 2021 Netflix movie My Little Pony: A New Generation. Now, that movie’s story will continue through IDW Publishing’s all-new My Little Pony comic series.

IDW’s new My Little Pony series will be helmed by two Friendship Is Magic alumnae. The writer behind the series is award-winning writer Celeste Bronfman who is best known for the television series Degrassi and Big Top Academy. The artwork behind the new comic series will be done by acclaimed comic artist and Hasbro toy designer Amy Mebberson. The My Little Pony series will also feature a number of artists offering their creative talents for variant covers, including series artist Amy Mebberson as well as JustaSuta and a Retailer Incentive edition by Brianna Garcia.

In an interview released by IDW Publishing along with the announcement of the new My Little Pony series, the creative team behind the comic spoke on their excitement for this upcoming project. “Writing for this new incarnation of My Little Pony has been an incredible experience!” says writer Celeste Bronfman. “With the phenomenal team at IDW, we’ve created a team that speaks to the power of embracing what makes each of us unique and stays true to the heart and passion of Friendship Is Magic.” As an integral member of this creative team, artist Amy Mebberson also offered insight into what they will be bringing to the new series, “Celeste Bronfman and I hope to bring you an epic story spanning two generations, proving that the eternal powers of love and friendship are never far away to help heal grief into strength and loss into joy once again.”

My Little Pony will pick up right where the movie My Little Pony: A New Generation left off. With magic returned to Equestria, the ponies Sunny Starscout, Izzy Moonbow, Zipp Storm, Pipp Petals, Hitch Trailblazer, and their sidekick Cloudpuff are more united than ever, but as they soon learn, their world isn’t totally safe. The Mane 5 discover that someone has stolen one of the Unity Crystals, and the magic starts draining from Equestria once again. It is up to the ponies to find out who stole the crystal and return it to its proper place before the magic of their world is gone forever.

While the adventure that lies ahead of the Mane 5 in this new My Little Pony series is exciting, the comic also teases the return of a fan-favorite location from a beloved My Little Pony television series. On their journey to discover who stole a Unity Crystal, their pet Pomeranian is potentially leading the ponies to the city of Canterlot which was made famous in the show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. From the callbacks to previous My Little Pony series to the continuation of the next generation, IDW Publishing’s My Little Pony is sure to be a hit with new and old fans alike. My Little Pony #1 will be available in May 2022.
