My Hero Academia features many weird and wonderful powers, but Mirio Togata’s type of Quirk superpower is one of the most impressive – here’s his Permeation Quirk and its related Super Moves explained. Created by Kōhei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia is a manga and anime series set in a world where most humans possess powers known as Quirks which has given rise to the creation of superheroes and villains. It follows the adventures of protagonist Izuku Midoriya who is born without a Quirk but nevertheless dreams of becoming a superhero.

Izuku’s dreams come true when an act of heroism sees him bestowed with a transferable Quirk and he starts attending an elite superhero training academy called U.A. High School. There he meets My Hero Academia's Mirio Togata – a popular and charismatic fellow student who is hailed as one of U.A. High School’s most powerful pupils. Thanks to his dedication to becoming a professional superhero (combined with his extensive training under mentor Sir Nighteye), Mirio has honed his fighting abilities to perfection. As a result, he’s pretty powerful on his own but even more formidable when using his Quirk.

Mirio’s Quirk is known as “Permeation” and was inherited from his father. It allows Mirio to make his entire body (or select body parts) intangible so he can phase through solid matter and objects, enabling him to swiftly maneuver around battlefields and easily dodge opponents’ attacks. “Permeation” isn’t the most powerful Quirk in My Hero Academia, nor is it without its limitations as passing through solid matter causes Mirio to temporarily lose his basic senses. It’s also considered one of the hardest powers to master, but Mirio learned how to wield “Permeation” effectively and made it one of the most impressive Quirks on the show.

Alongside “Permeation,” Mirio also has a couple of Super Moves which are basically special techniques that work in conjunction with Quirks. One of his Super Moves is known as “Blinder Touch Eyeball Crush” – a feint or sleight of hand trick which sees Mirio make his arm intangible and pretend to poke an opponent in the eye to distract them while he delivers a potent punch elsewhere on their body. His other Super Move is called “Phantom Menace” and sees Mirio repeatedly activate and deactivate his “Permeation” Quirk to catapult himself off various solid surfaces and launch surprise attacks on opponents.

He might be hailed for his mastery of “Permeation” in My Hero Academia, but one of Mirio’s best qualities is his innate heroism. Mirio demonstrated this when he took a Quirk-Destroying Bullet meant for his friend Eri who he’d sworn to protect. The bullet canceled Mirio’s “Permeation” Quirk for some time, but it was eventually restored when his pal Eri mastered her own Quirk “Rewind” and was able to revert Mirio to his former state – “Permeation” and its associated Super Moves included.
