My Hero Academia season 6 now has an official release date — and here is everything we know about it. Although it is a typical shonen affair, My Hero Academia stands out by bringing its own little twists to the popular superhero sub-genre. Adapting Kōhei Horikoshi's manga, My Hero Academia features superhero characters with some of the most fascinating and ridiculously creative abilities. While its storyline presents a simple good vs. evil narrative, its appeal lies in its vibrant color palette, well-animated action scenes, and coming-of-age drama.

Set in a world where 80% of humanity possesses superpowers called "quirks," My Hero Academia follows a quirk-less young boy named Izuku "Deku" Midoriya. As he spends his days looking up to powerful heroes surrounding him, a twist of fate helps him acquire a powerful quirk from his favorite hero, All Might. Izuku subsequently joins a school that trains younger heroes like him and fights against all odds to make All Might proud. In My Hero Academia season 5, Deku and his classmates duke it out with Class 1-B students to prove that they are rightfully considered the stronger heroes.

Unlike its predecessors, My Hero Academia season 5 received mixed reviews because most of its story arcs serve as fillers to the show's overarching narrative. However, as its recent trailers suggest, My Hero Academia season 6 is about to make up for its predecessor's percieved failures by featuring a fierce war. Here is everything that is known about My Hero Academia season 6's release date and potential story developments.

Soon after the release of My Hero Academia season 5's finale, the show's producer Yoshihiro Oyabu thanked fans for watching the season and affirmed (via Twitter) that the show will "be back with a new and improved version." In addition, My Hero Academia season 5's ending confirmed the show's return by featuring a “TO BE CONTINUED IN THE 6th SEASON” motif. Since then, it has also been revealed that My Hero Academia season 6 will follow the manga's "Paranormal Liberation War" arc, which features a brutal war between the pro-heroes and The League of Villains.

Deku and Shigaraki in My Hero Academia season 6

Considering that it is adapting the manga's "Paranormal Liberation War" arc, My Hero Academia season 6 will probably be the darkest installment of the series to date. The "Paranormal Liberation War" arc begins with Superspy Hawks and the Safety Commission acquiring secret information on an imminent villain attack. In response, students of UA High join forces with the pro-heroes, while Hawk continues to skate on thin ice to learn more about the villains. The heroes are ultimately able to plan an effective assault, but Shigaraki turns the tide by appearing in his final form. Given the bleakness of this arc, My Hero Academia season 6 will feature many character deaths, which will only encourage Deku to power up his One For All and end Shigaraki's reign.
