The introduction of the exuberant Mirio Togata made the My Hero Academia anime considerably more interesting, especially given the fact that he belonged to UA's Big Three, the most adept students at the school. He first appeared to be lighthearted and whimsical, but the first years quickly learned that taking him on in a fight and winning is quite impossible due to the nature of his Quirk and the proficiency with which he uses it.

Unlike Deku, whose core personality revolves around being miserable and self-deprecating, Mirio believes in the notion of universal kindness, that everyone can be a good person if only given the chance. There's also the fact of his incredible courage and willingness to sacrifice everything to safeguard the innocent. How much is really known about this character?

Loves To Eat Ramen And Watch Comedy

Mirio Togata in My Hero Academia

The interest in ramen is not very unique considering his Japanese origins, but his love for comedy is heavily dependent on his personality. Mirio's brand of humor is playful self-effacement in that he sometimes doesn't mind if the joke is at his expense as long as those around him are entertained.

For example, when Eri comes to UA for the first time, Mirio uses his denim-covered buttocks as an introductory device to help her feel at ease with the new crowd. He also likes making comical observations from time to time.

The Origin Of His Hero Name

Mirio from My Hero Academia

Mirio is one of the most compassionate hero-trainees at UA, and has a desire to protect people almost as much as—if not more than—Deku. However, he is fully aware that there is no way he can be present at every crime/disaster scene, and therefore will be unable to offer a universal form of protection as much as he wants to.

Hence, he goes by the name Lemillion, or Le Million in French, to indicate that his life goals will be achieved only after he successfully rescues a million human beings.

Could Have Inherited The One For All

My Hero Academia Mirio Nighteye

According to Sir Nighteye, Mirio's mentor and All Might's previous sidekick, Mirio has the best possible demeanor essential to the inheritance of the One For All. This is because he is skilled, powerful, charming, and immensely helpful, all traits that make a hero deserving of their position. Interestingly, he bears no ill will towards Deku for "taking" what supposedly should have been his.

On the contrary, Mirio isn't the slightest bit bothered that his own Quirk is destroyed during combat. In some ways, this makes him more worthy of the One For All.

Hairstyles & Outfit

As a small child, Mirio's blond hair used to be short and spiked, but this apparently changes when he enters middle school. In a flashback, he was shown sporting medium length hair, that was banded up in a ponytail.

Currently, it's somewhere in between, with the back of his hair is kept along the sides of his head, while the forward part is maintained in the form of a raised wall. Speaking of his choice of clothing, the only unique aspect of it is the belt he wears, whose buckle takes the form of a predatory set of jaws, somewhat clashing with his gentle nature.

Star Wars-Themed Super Move

One of Mirio's established super moves is known as The Phantom Menace, which refers to Star Wars: Episode I. This technique is tuned to perfection and consists of a series of phasings into different solid objects, which consequently allows him to shoot his body out rapidly by inducing the natural repulsion between his atoms and that of the surface involved.

The Phantom Menace helps Mirio burst out of different places almost simultaneously, with each attack carefully measured beforehand, ensuring a rather high specificity.

Already At A Pro-Hero Level

Deku and Mirio

Of all the battles that Mirio has been in, one of the most amazing ones has to be his sparring match against UA school's prestigious 1-A class, as he asks them all to come at him simultaneously. He then proceeds to rapidly defeat nearly every single opponent in record time, using his classic speed-phasing diversion tactic.

Deku comes close to guessing the direction of his attack, but Mirio's "Blinder Touch Eyeball Crush" takes care of him effortlessly. Given that many of these students have actually withstood overwhelming odds in the past, this victory further cements his status as a Pro-Hero level combatant.

Shifts From Happy To Upset In An Instant

Mirio Togata

As placid as he generally is, Mirio can be pushed across the emotional spectrum at a rapid pace when he encounters something that seriously affects him on a personal level, regardless of how efficiently he usually maintains control of the situation.

Unfortunately, when he convinces Midoriya that Overhaul should take Eri with him, he's technically acting according to how he was taught, but the realization of her suffering makes him feel terribly sad as well as remorseful for his role in the event.

His Defining Childhood Experience

The main reason behind Mirio's heroic attitude and can-do personality is partially based on how complicated his Permeation Quirk is, as the difficulties posed by it offer him a wide range of perspectives from which to view the various possible battle outcomes.

At his core, though, Mirio's inspiration is largely derived from the time a Pro Hero rescues him from drowning as a little kid. Although nameless, it is this character who sets him on the path towards gallantry.

Slightly Embarrassing Quirk

Mirio's Permeation is as hard to maneuver as it is versatile, but he has managed to figure out how to consistently retain his Quirk state, even though he is unable to sense his environment or respire while it's operational.

An annoying side-effect of this, however, is the fact that his outfits also pass through his body, along with everything else, meaning that he cannot wear normal clothing while permeating. Initially, Mirio finds this embarrassing, but the benefits of his Quirk far outweigh this small corollary.

Hero Outfit Made From His Own Hair

In order to bypass the problem mentioned above, his hero costume is created with the help of Excavation Hero: Power Loader and Mei Hatsume in the UA Development Studio.

The solution devised by these two characters is surprisingly simple; weaving Mirio's own hair into his outfit, thereby preventing him from passing through it. It seems that the only matter his Quirk cannot work on is part of his anatomy.
