When it comes to the best current manga about teenage superheroes, My Hero Academia and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations are the cream of the crop. In addition to fighting for truth and justice, these young heroes must also deal with homework, relationships, and the difficult transition from boys and girls to men and women, all refracted through the experience of being super-powered. Despite these issues, both teams are incredibly good at being superheroes. That's why it would be interesting to see how they would respond when facing one another.

Each manga focuses on the story of a particular group of super-powered teenagers. In My Hero Academia, that subset is U.A. High School’s Class 1-A, the class that has traditionally produced some of the most successful professional heroes in the business. The students of Class 1-A are considered the professional hero world’s “best and brightest” next generation of heroes. In addition, Class 1-a has the benefit of having the very best teachers. Class 1-A has 20 students who exhibit a diversity of superpowers or “quirks” that range from invisibility to electrification; laser beams to the “One For All” power amplifier. In short, any opponent facing them should expect to engage in a wide-ranging fight with asymmetrical attacks that will test their powers and abilities to the fullest.

In Boruto, the story similarly focuses on a group of students, who are studying at a school known as the Academy. Unlike My Hero Academia's U.A. High School, each year’s cohort of students attends the same classes together but for practical ninja training purposes are broken up into three-person ninja teams who are overseen by a higher-ranking experienced ninja. Accordingly, any fight between the ninja teams and Class 1-A would likely include a cohort made up of several ninja teams. The two most prominent teams that would be included are Team 7 and Team 10.

MY HERO ACADEMIA BORUTO

In a fight pitting quirk against chakra, it would seem that the two teams are fairly balanced. Members of both teams are adept at basic hand-to-hand melee, and all have some understanding of strategy and tactics. Both teams also have some serious firepower. Uraraka's gravity manipulation, Todoriki's fire and ice, and Deku "One For All" ensure Class 1-A will never be an "easy out." On the other side, Boruto's jogan and Sarada's sharingan mean the the ninja will always have a chance to succeed. On paper, neither team demonstrates an exceptional advantage over the other in terms of power, though the diversity of skills that Class 1-A brings into the fight might mean a slight advantage over an opponent who is focused on just ninjutsu. This is especially the case as Class 1-A's experiences may make them more adaptive, given the range of quirks they've faced in the past.

With no remarkable difference in firepower, this fight will be decided by two factors: leadership and coordination. The edge in leadership goes to Boruto's ninja team. Unlike Class 1-A, there are numerous members of of the ninja team whose parents were exceptional ninjas who have passed on significant amounts of knowledge and experience to their children. Conversely, most of Class 1-A are first-time heroes, learning as they go. Second, since they normally operate in smaller groups, the ninjas will have a better understanding of the power of coordination and how to use it to their advantage. Class 1-A have made huge strides in this area, but still tend to approach combat as a group of individuals rather than as a coordinated team. In contrast, the ninjas can break out into their usual three-member units and focus their attacks on taking out Class 1-A's biggest threats, before recombining to subdue its weaker members.

Ultimately, better leaders make better decisions, which means despite Boruto's ninja team boasting less varied powers, their expertise and team work would give them the edge over My Hero Academia's Class 1-A.
