Relative to a lot of its shonen contemporaries, My Hero Academia isn't as dark and dreary as one might come to expect. Veering far away from hard-boiled classics like Fist of the North Star, its edgy inspiration Naruto, or even its macabre, modern colleague Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia embraces the bright colors and personality of the superhero genre to become much more lighthearted and amusing, with the MHA anime spawning a slew of hilarious memes.

This allows a lot of the dialogue and character interactions to be really outrageous and playful, creating some of the most consistently funny bits. While these scenes are never the focus of the main story, My Hero Academia has plenty of hilarious moments that a lot of fans fondly look back on.

Kota Randomly Punching Deku In The Groin

Kota Punches Deku in the My Hero Academia anime.

While many fans know Deku as the innocent idealist that constantly needs to be protected, it's always fun to see him outside of his comfort zone. One of the best instances of this—and the very humble beginning of a new friendship—was his first interaction with the bratty kid from the Forest Training Camp Arc, Kota Izumi.

As always, Deku tried to be friendly after seeing the little kid and was quick to greet him. Little did he know that Kota, at the time, didn't take kindly to heroes, but he definitely learned that after Kota expressed his opinions in no uncertain times. Unfortunately, the kid would do so with his fist.

Jiro Pokes Mineta's Eye

Mineta peeping in My Hero Academia

Minoru Mineta was always meant to be the comic relief character amongst Class 1-A, but the fans haven't always seen him favorably. This is mostly because Mineta is part of a long, tired archetype of main characters who get laughs by being perverts, a comedy routine that is beginning to feel increasingly outdated.

That's what makes this scene so appealing; Mineta, in an unintentional effort to rip off the '80s comedy Porky's, tries to peak at the girl's locker room, only for Kyoka Jiro to notice his peephole and use her headphone jack to poke Mineta's eye.

Hatsume Mei Tests Her Babies On Iida

Tenya Iida charging at Mei Hatsume during the My Hero Academia sports festival arc.

Hatsume Mei is among a handful of beloved My Hero Academia characters with very little screen time. She's funny, passionate, and another member of Deku's increasing list of prospective ships. She really sold herself—and her "babies"—to the fans during the Sports Festival Arc where she used her variety of gadgets to coast her way into the battle section. There, she offered Iida some of her gadgets to use during their battle.

Being trusting and good-natured, Iida agreed. Unbeknownst to him, Mei never intended to have a fair fight. In fact, she didn't plan to fight at all. Using Iida to advertise her inventions, Mei used her time in the spotlight to show off some of her best support items. She gave Iida the win, but Iida felt used.

Deku Cries Buckets When Finding His Cavalry Team

If Deku didn't have a lot of friends growing up, he's terrible at hiding it. As soon as he enrolled in U.A., the amount of people wanting to get to know him and be his friend was overwhelming. This is especially the case for his very first friend and de-facto love interest, Ochaco Uraraka, who was constantly by his side for most of the early story.

Still, Deku is a shy kid who doesn't always think that he deserves friendship. This is evident in one of his most iconic crying scenes—which is saying something given how often he cries—where Ochaco, alongside Hatsume Mei and Fumikage Tokoyami, offers to partner with Deku for the Cavalry Battle.

Ochaco Squeezes Deku's Heart

Deku Shows His Heart Squeeze Face.

Deku is a master of funny faces, and, when Ochaco offered to partner with him—one of her cutest moments in MHAhe makes another one when she doubles down on teaming with him, exclaiming that, "it's better to team up with people you like!" She does so with such a bubbly face and attitude that her innocent soul practically reaches into Deku's chest and squeezes his heart.

As a result, Deku makes one of his most hilarious faces. Unable to handle the sudden rush of emotions or how bright Ochaco's presence was, he puckers his face as if he just ate a lemon.

Ochaco Defeats Thirteen While Flustered

Ochaco Becomes Flustered in My Hero Academia.

Deku has never been great at concealing his feelings for Uraraka. However, as the two grew closer and Ochaco came to respect and admire Deku more and more, she unexpectedly found herself having feelings for him. This was brought to the forefront during the anime's final exams arc.

Having noticed that Ochaco's thinking of Deku at the time, Aoyama blatantly calls her out on having a crush on him. Inadvertently, this causes the two to pass the exam. Ochaco becomes so flustered that she lets herself get sucked into Thirteen's vacuum, only to shift her momentum at the last second to take the instructor down.

Monoma Mocks The Kids Who Failed Their Mid-Terms

Monoma looking smug in the My Hero Academia anime.

Neito Monoma has the potential to be a vicious and opportunistic rival in My Hero Academia. Unfortunately for him—and hilariously for his critics—Monoma is more famous these days as Class 1-B's running gag. Incredibly jealous of and irritated by Class 1-A's attention within the public eye, Monoma takes every opportunity he can to mock them.

One such instance was when he discovered that Class 1-A had five kids fail their mid-term battle exam. This led him to laugh and celebrate given that Class 1-B only had one kid fail—even though he was that singular failing student.

Bakugo Shows The Class His Hero Names

One of the most lighthearted moments in the series was when Class 1-A took a break from their studies to decide on their hero names. Momo and Tsuyu chose kid-friendly names such as "Creatie" and "Froppy," Mineta accepted his grape-like resemblance, and Aoyama chose an entire catchphrase.

Out of all of them, however, it was Bakugo's name that really stood out. Sticking to a theme and attitude, Bakugo chose names such as "King Explosion Murder" and "Baron of Explodo-kills," both of which were rejected.

Mirio's Debut

Mirio Togata in My Hero Academia

A huge part of a great shonen character and a great hero is making a great first impression. Mirio Togata, aka Lemillion, had one of the best debuts in the series. Before he even got hyped as one of MHA's occasionally nonsensical "Big Three," Mirio decided to take a look at his younger peers in Class 1-A.

Being a mischievous one, he decides to use his power to peak through a wall. Phasing just enough through a wall to see Deku and his friends, Mirio debuts in one of the strangest places, making one of the strangest faces.

Deku's All Might Impression

If fans didn't know better, many would swear that Deku's real Quirk was shapeshifting his face to hilarious designs. While he's come up with many funny faces over the years, his most memorable to date is an oddly familiar one. While All Might was having a serious talk with him about One for All, he asks Deku if he remembers what he said when he gifted the Quirk.

Deku, in one of the character's cutest MHA moments, does his best All Might impression. With All Might's face imposed on his body, he recalls the worst line from their training: "eat this." Given how serious this scene tried to be, this really made fans laugh.
