The world of My Hero Academia is full of heroes and villains with unique Quirks that have expanded many fans' conceptions of what it would be like to have a superpower. Throughout the series, the story has frequently subverted many superhero norms and stereotypes while also sticking to the tried and true formula of pitting an inexperienced group of heroes against a seasoned villain.

Midoriya and the rest of Class 1-A have quickly become entangled in the struggle for the fate of Japan, but their journey has not been straightforward. Along the way, several important plot points have been left unanswered, leaving many fans wondering if these holes will one day be filled or if they are genuine oversights that undermine the reliability of the storyline and the backstories of the characters.

Mineta Is Never Punished For His Behavior

Mineta peeping in My Hero Academia

The biggest plothole concerning Mineta is not how he got into UA, which is surprising in and of itself. The real question is how he has not been expelled from school given his repeated inappropriate behavior.

He is constantly harassing, spying on, and groping his female classmates, and yet he has never received a formal punishment from a member of the school administration. If UA were a normal school, his behavior would have gotten him at least suspended if not expelled, yet the only punishment Mineta ever seems to receive is a beating from his fellow classmates.

Hagakure Should Not Have Passed The Practical Exam

Hagarule celebrating in My Hero Academia.

Invisibility is a classic superhero power that has many useful applications. However, in Hagakure's case, at the start of the series, she is only able to turn herself invisible, and, at that point, her Quirk had almost no offensive capabilities. Given her average strength, it's completely inconceivable that she was able to pass the practical exam and enter UA.

Even if she scored extremely high on the written exam, she should not have been able to destroy any of the robots in the practical exam, which would have led to a failing score. It's never revealed what tactics she used to pass the practical exam, but the results are highly questionable.

Some Quirks Would Be Extremely Difficult To Identify

Stain and Himiko Toga from the My Hero Academia anime.

Some Quirks in My Hero Academia are readily apparent and would be easy to identify, while others are more complicated and require specific circumstances in order to be revealed. Although many Quirks are hereditary and it's not unreasonable to believe that given enough time their details could be uncovered, some Quirks would be extremely difficult to identify.

It's hard to believe that Stain and Toga were able to discern that they need to ingest the blood of other people in order to activate their Quirks, and, even if they have family members with similar powers, it doesn't answer how their ancestors learned their powers. While technology that accurately identifies Quirks may exist, it doesn't appear to be widely used, begging the question of how complex Quirks are discovered in the first place.

Todorki Should Not Have Been Able To Use His Quirks Simultaneously At The Sports Festival

My Hero Academia's Todoroki during the Sports Festival arc.

Todoroki rarely uses his fire Quirk due to his hatred for his father, Endeavor. However, he did use his fire Quirk during his fight with Midoriya during the Sports Festival and even went as far as using it simultaneously with his ice Quirk. This seems normal, given that he is a talented hero, but it is later revealed during the forest training trip that he is not able to use his Quirks simultaneously.

He may have been able to use his Quirks simultaneously due to the amount of adrenaline that was running through his body, but that doesn't explain why he couldn't use both Quirks later given that he'd done it before. He either should be able to use both under certain circumstances or not at all.

Everyone Has Forgotten About The Traitor At UA?

UA High School in My Hero Academia.

The revelation that there is a traitor at UA leaking information to the League of Villains was meant to be an important plot point in the series. Yet, once Present Mic uncovered the existence of a traitor, the faculty at UA ceased talking about the subject and have also not made any efforts to uncover the traitor's identity.

What was set up as a crucial element of the story has since become an afterthought that has not had any impact since the beginning of the series. Fans have been understandably surprised at the traitor's absence from events of the story, and it remains to be seen if the traitor will once again come to prominence in future episodes.

Tomura's Quirk Should Be More Inconvenient

Tomura Shigaraki in the My Hero Academia anime.

Tomura's Quirk allows him to disintegrate anything that he touches so long as he uses all five of his fingers. Also, he is not able to prevent his Quirk from activating, which presents a number of difficult challenges for Tomura. His Quirk even works on himself, meaning that he cannot touch his own body with five fingers without harming himself.

Out of necessity, he must handle objects with only a few of his fingers, and even momentary lapses in judgment or concentration could lead him to disintegrate objects or people on accident. This level of stress could make anyone go insane, so it's no surprise that he is a supervillain, but it's also remarkable that he manages to go about his life without leaving piles of ash everywhere he goes.

Aizawa's Student Failure Ratio Is Improbably High

Aizawa teaching classes in My Hero Academia's UA High School.

Aizawa prides himself on being a tough critic with high standards, hence his status as the teacher with the highest student failure ratio at UA. Since he became a teacher at UA, Aizawa is reported to have failed 154 students, but this figure is simply not realistic.

Aizawa was a pro hero for a few years before he became a teacher at UA, so, at most, he's been a teacher for about 10 years. If the average UA classroom has around 20 students, then that means Aizawa has failed 3 out of 4 of the students he has ever taught. This is not only unreasonable, it's also grounds for his dismissal as a teacher because no school would tolerate such a high rate of failure from only one teacher.

Midoriya's Father Is Almost Never Mentioned

Izuku Midoriya looking sad in the My Hero Academia anime.

Midoriya is lucky to be surrounded by family, friends, and mentors who love and support him. His mother, Inko, and All Might are two of his biggest supporters, yet there is one important individual missing from his life that receives little to no mention during the series: his father, Hisashi Midoriya.

Supposedly, Hisashi is working overseas, hence his extended absence, but it doesn't explain why Midoriya doesn't think about him or why he and his dad are never in communication with each other. More details may come out that reveal why their relationship is so mysterious, but, for now, Hisashi's absence feels more like an oversight than an intentional choice.

UA Puts Students Lives At Risk But No One Seems To Care

UA's ridiculously dangerous enterance exam.

UA is considered to be the best hero school in Japan, and, over the years, the school has produced some of the world's strongest heroes. Despite its sterling reputation, UA has shown time and again that it is willing to put its students' lives in danger.

The robots used in the practical portion of the school entrance exam were fully capable of killing the students, and UA's only excuse for including such a dangerous test was that Recovery Girl was present. Additionally, UA has a known traitor on staff, yet does next to nothing to uncover the traitor's identity, while students have been kidnapped and seriously hurt during training exercises. Rather than being a magnet for talent, students should avoid UA like the plague.

Mirio's Quirk Should Also Make Him Invisible

Mirio's strange permeation quirk in the My Hero Academia anime.

Mirio's Quirk allows him to travel through any object, which is a pretty useful skill. However, Mirio admits that his Quirk even allows light to pass through him. This means that when he was traveling through an object, any light would not reflect off of him, which should cause him to be invisible.

When using his Quirk, he is shown to be translucent, but this is not the same thing and is a clear misunderstanding of a basic application of physics... not that My Hero Academia ever adhered to those restrictions. It's not clear whether Mirio is able to make certain parts of his body physical while using his clear, but if not then he should turn invisible when traveling through objects.
