Shinichi Fukuda, the creator of My Dress-Up Darling, says they cried when they first saw the anime. My Dress-Up Darling is a hit new anime from this year's winter lineup based on Fukuda's manga series of the same name. My Dress-Up Darling is a romantic comedy featuring two high school students who, although they seem to belong to different worlds, discover they share a common interest. The anime premiered on January 9 on Tokyo MX and is being released internationally on Crunchyroll and Funimation dubbed in both Japanese and English

This week, the original manga's creator shared their reaction to My Dress-Up Darling's anime adaptation in a recent interview with Comic Natalie (shared via Twitter). ComicBook reports that Fukuda says they cried tears of joy after watching the first two episodes of the anime. The manga creator also says they rewatched those episodes for hours. Read the English translation of Fukuda's comments below:

"I received the first 2 episodes of the anime and watched them. They were so good I cried out of joy! I've seen it over and over again for 13 hours. I have never been this happy in my manga career. I was so moved."

Fukuda was not the only one pleased by their manga's anime adaptation. Even while competing against globally successful returning series like Attack on Titan and Demon SlayerMy Dress-Up Darling managed to be one of the most talked-about series from this season and has received positive reviews across the board. The anime's popularity has even begun to spread to its manga inspiration, and 1.5 million more copies of the manga have been ordered since the anime premiered to anticipate sales demand, bringing the manga's circulation up to 5 million copies in print. With My Dress-Up Darling's immense success, there's no wonder Fukuda described it as the happiest moment of their career.
